No, showing up late also means that you won't be stuck with x years technology for your engine parts. It's not only disadvantages.

All these engine freeze rules sound like they would make a good tactical board or computer game.

 

I cant really see how it is relevant to motor sport though.

 

I would be interested to know how much has been spent by the manufacturers on their engines , fighting the rules , carrying out  designs to fit within available tokens etc.

 

Have they really saved anything over actually just building and racing engines modified as required for each race.

Mercedes probably saved some, but those catching up... One must look beyond the cost for the actual PU development and count in the cost of a season of bad performance and commentators going on and on about the bad engines produced.
