Anaheim 1 baby!!!  Bummer no James for the season. Interesting article about Davi Millsaps

http://www.ocregiste...time-going.html

Q: Like Ryan Villopoto, who was trained by his dad and now has a strained relationship, you were trained by your mom, who you no longer speak with. What is it about this sport that tears families apart?

A: It has to do with money for a lot of people. The other one is control, jealousy and the list goes on, but it’s hard to separate out being a parent, a trainer, your financial adviser, your bookkeeper, everything that they try to be for you when you’re just turning pro and starting to make money to where at the end of the day they need to step back and just be your parent. I think that’s where a lot of it starts to turmoil, when they can’t step back and do it because they have to have the control. It’s a thing that has happened a lot in our sport. It’s not just me or Villopoto. There’s a lot more.

I'm quite anxious to see the season start this evening. The schedule and 3D track maps are included in the following link:

If you can find the Inside the Outdoors episode of him it's wayyyyyy worth the 20 minutes. Mom is a psychopath and the sister isn't much better. She ended up opening a camp so that people can pay her to abuse their kids and used the Millsaps name for it. She's riding the coattails of the kid that she constantly reminds is a failure in her eyes.

Fascinating read that, so nice to see there is a bit of decent journalism around!

I think the pushy parent thing is very common in motocross. Some kids just seem to thrive on it, some really need it, some rebel from it.

Makes you wonder how many great talents there must be out there that dont have a Stewart, Dungey or Ciancurilo type parent model who push them but also seem to let them be at times.

I can see hoe being a parent becomes envious when an Aldon Baker type gets involved but you have to understand you are emotionally involved, you watch your kid do anything, its impossible not to be and that is never going to work. Be it husband, brother, parent. You have too much emetion, so letting that go must be horrendous!

I do think RV is back to being cool with his folks now though

It's always amazing how big the supercross tracks in the US are.

European Supercross look like this (the last one i attended to) the most times. I guess it's because SX doesn't fill big arenas in Europe so they have to hold it in smaller venues.

Anyways, i like it.

We have that here but it's called Arenacross. They're trying to turn it into sort of a feeder series for Supercross.

Pretty entertaining races if you ignore the top 2 spots.

Great ride by Ken Doll, that combo could be strong all year. Ken was inconsistent on the KTM, maybe that was more about the bike? I guess we'll see.

The non-aggressive Dungey thing just never ceases to be funny. The commentary team doesn't even hold back anymore, practically groaning as soon as Dungey got up to Short.  They were noticeably shocked when Alessi didn't get passed in the whoops too.

Also, Jason Anderson the fastest KTM on track.

Anyone who saw Anderson last year should not fail to be surprised, quick, aggressive and decisive. But maybe a little inconsistent. Seeley is just like Dungey, if he gets the holeshot he can win, but hopeless at passing.

Dungey is embarassing, just not aggressive enough really, quite why KTM didnt drop him not sure.

Millsaps failed miserably as did Reed to be fair and Wilson.

But my pick Canard was on it superbly, battled through as did Barcia.

Other great rides from Peick and 911 and the young lad on the Yam in 250, batled to 5th from aout 15th.

Roczen won from the front, lets see him in a battle, his weak area for me.

Just watched the 450 and 250 races. Consider me a new fan.

I kept saying for like two, three years now, that I'll watch this and MotoX. But this time I did it.

Is it true that some MotoGP riders watch the hell out of this?

Yes.

With the time difference to Europe and having to do things in the week and the nonstop calendar I find it difficult to commit to (watching) a season of Supercross. But it's one of the best kinds of racing on telly, no doubt. Probably only second to MotoGP as the big-time show of the bike world.

Was brill last year at Catalunya, Hodgson was doing his grid walk and after doing his boring stuff was like a little kid as RV was there on the front row. Hodgson was like a little boy it was hilarious!

I think GP riders think Supercross and MX guys are the nuts. Stoner loves his moto and supercross too and has been to see RV a few times in the States.

Isn't Rossi a close friend of Antonio Cairoli (the permanent MX world champion) too?

No DVRs, no. And no channel that shows it. Yay for the internet.

RV vs. Cairoli, sounds awesome.

Saw the 450 race this morning (thanks to youtube). Well done Ken!

Dungey took quite a while to get past Short... maybe he was just avoiding mistakes and choose to start the season with a decent amount of points.

Nosecone, that is Dungey I'm afraid, was awesome in his first few years, ruthless, quick.

Now he seems to play the percentage game, sponsor dream, never says a bad thing, never does anything wrong, and will be there at the end as he rarely gets injured or falls off.

But he certainly aint an RC, RV or Bubba!

Yeah, he's playing the long game instead of the Stewie win-it-or-bin-it game and it pays off but.... **** it's boring. And some well timed aggression could have brought him another title rather than being runner up twice.

He's won 3 top-class titles (1 SX and 2 MX) by being the fastest guy that finishes the season, not by being the fastest guy that starts the season. It's worked well for him.  There were 20 other riders at the Aneheim 1 Main starting gate that would love to have his record.

I thik the reason a few on here have a minor issue with Dungey is not that he is quick, he clearly is.  It is his lack of aggressiveness.

Passing in Supercross is a very tough thing to do, you have to lay it on the line totally, really commit to a move and when you do be sure its going to stick.  n the final he sat behind Short for laps, while Canard who was on a similar pace earlier just went away. If he had got past sooner maybe he could have caught Canard as I do think Dungey is the most consistent and maybe one of the fittest guys out there.

For me and others he has lost that kller instinct that seperates only a few riders from the rest, In that bracket are McGrath, Villopoto, Stewart, RC and maybe Reed though his titles were largely won through injuries and the like with the main guys.

Very entertaining event. I don't mind the new semi final heat race format for the 450s. It gives another shot toqualify before the LCQ, plus the shorter heats leave it less spread out.

As for Dungey... That was painful to watch.

250 class is where it's at this year, Rocszen had this title when the FIM did Stewart in. Such a shame. I ride Suzuki so i'm glad Kenny switched. I loathe Dungey, He's a lucky SX champion. Everybody got hurt.

Um, I don't think I claimed that he isn't fast. Ryan is very capable of winning races when he gets a strong start.

Also since you threw MX titles in there, which are afterthoughts for a lot of guys, let's let everyone see who he had to beat to get there.

Dungey is a machine. He's one of the most likely to top 5 ALL season. It looks if Ken can stay healthy, he's the guy this year. But, If.

Yeah, you know he'll be there or thereabouts but he does need those ahead to make mistakes in order to come out on top. RV took off already so he really just needs Roczen to falter, possibly Tomac. Or Anderson... :p

KIts the first round for goodness sake!

Roczen won here last year didnt he?  Its not a cert he can win anywhere, he was inconsistent last year, Millsaps had a bad night, Barcia too but he looked quick late in the race.

Tomac binned it, and guys liek Canard and Anderson are clearly going to be up there every week.

as a rookie. He led the championship for a few races and that was against RV and JS7.

Rocszen looks very strong after his 2014 seasons. I cannot see him failing to clinch his first sx title home barring an injury. Unless JS7 appeals and returns to SX.

I thinki Bubba will appeal but he is probably too far back to win a title unless he starts the next 1 or 2 rounds.

Dungey is a safe bet, why he is well sponsored and a top lad, but he is a bit like a Colin Edwards was with rossi, safe but not cuthroat!

I do rate Ken, but he was incistent last year after a great start.

That was pretty great stuff between Ken Doll and Eli. Eli was faster though and Ken thought better of throwing it away.

Webb was superb in the 250's quicker than anyone else realy. Impressed with Plessinger again too and Bowers, but you would expect that, Pless is a rookie. Stewart hopeless again after doing well early and Nelson excellent with an injury?

450 awesome from Tomac, still fairly new to a 450 has impressed more than Barcia in my opinion.  Roczen looks to be the more consistent with Dungey.

Excellent from Peick, good stuff from Anderson also after a bad start, as I suspected he is looking far more impressive than others peoples 250 picsk like Wilson and Seeley who seem to fade too easy.

Some of the guys there really are struggling, Brayton was right there, Short too and they fell right away. Reed cmon man, give it up.

I'll admit i wasn't sure if Roczen would be a real season-long threat -- and we are still only two rounds in -- but man, he has been The Man so far. Great starts both times, fast all race (Tomac looks like the only challenger on pure speed so far) and he's doing it with a new-to-him team that's been just "meh" in past years. Of course, we have different tracks and dirt conditions to get to, but Roczen's shown me more than I thought he would. (Thank you, Capt. Obvious.)

My serious question is: Can anyone sell me on Malcolm Stewart? The Fox Sports TV crew hypes him on end, web sites talk about how he's just a breakthrough away, but what has he ever done besides being the kid brother of one of the sport's best? Great for him that he was second this week, but I just don't see the talent there that Big Bro has. (Seems to crash even more than Bubba, too, believe it or not.) Please tell me why he's The Next Big Thing that Fox Sports seems to want him to be.

Malcolm is incredibly fast. He's like his brother but with zero ability to navigate through race traffic. He had some good rides on the 450 but if he keeps riding like he is on the 250 I don't think he'll get another chance on one. I fast forward through the Fox talking stuff so I don't know what was said about Malcolm but he's definitely a contender each week, especially if he gets a strong start in the main.

To be honest I think Stewart has already had a few chances on decent kit, he only picked up this ride last minute.

I think there are far better guys out there, and let's face it, without his surname would he have got this far?

Look at Plessinger, Nelson, Bowers, they are your future champs here for me and maybe young Short

Oakland!

Now thatw as some supercross racing!!

Insane move by Bowers on Webb in the 250 race, if Canard got a black mark for his move, Bowers should get a ban!  Awesome ride form Webb after, what a talent this kid is, sadly all the plaudits will go to Fox favourite Stewart, but Webb rode his as of and nearly nicked it after being brutally hit earlier.

Awesome 450 main too, Roczen dropped the ball, his own mistake. Fascinating how the two guys up to no good last week came out good this week. Canard looked a winner from early on, as did Reed. Anderson dropped the ball, Seely was hot and cold, as was Tomac. Barcia nowere.

The Diesel keeps on trucking though, you have to admire him, even though he just never seems to do much other than podium every week!

Bonkers first ten laps. Gutsy moves all around. Sadly, I expected more from Barcia. :|

And how the hell is Dungey leading the championship?

I remember now wy I dont like Barcia much, fast though he is he is the roughest guy out there, still pulling 250 moves in the big class and he cant start for toffee

Dungey is leading coz he does what he does, podium every week, might win one or two, you cant fault the lad really.

Yeah. I don't know why the commentators seemingly have animosity towards the dude.

Ken Doll got off lightly. https://scontent-2.2...fd6&oe=555FE237

Super happy for Stewart, for once he was the guy picking up the pieces after an unforced crash. Hill needs to pull his head out and start doing something with that awesome bike and experience.

I'm gonna keep an eye on Strava and see if Bowers and Webb still train together after that one.

I feel a little sorry for Webb actually, Stewart gets all the plaudits because Fox adore him, he rode well, but nothing like as well as Webb.

And Fox, Dear God, they miss absolutely everything and Jeff and Ralph are constantly tongue tied coz they can see what is going on but arent allowed to show you until the "replay bought to you by Yamaha, Toyota and DC" is up on screen, by which time the move is gone, and while showing the replay they miss something else

And what is it with Barcia, fight up front with Canard chasing Redd, and we get a lap follwing that chump!  Cmon Fox, get with it, your coverage is great in some areas, but the director is hopeless at keeping up with the action.  And why do we need some needless bint telling us stuff from the pits, again, just while a great pass is going on we get a PR report telling us "we are looking to win today"

I could do better I really could

Well, I'll take credit for Malcolm's win. 13 years ago, I wrote a NASCAR preseason preview saying just because Michael Waltrip fell inot a ride with Dale Earnhardt's team, he still would not win a race, and first time out, of course, he wins the Daytona 500. Up above, I asked why all the fuss about Stewart because he'd never done anything of note in Supercross, and two races after that ...  Anyone want me to slam any of the riders now so they can win next round?

So, nice steady run by Malcolm to get the first win -- congratulations. Fantastic run by Canard on the big bikes; been waiting for him to show something like that for a few years, since before his many injuries..

Chunder, while I have to appreciate that Fox Sports broadcasts the races at all, I agree that whoever's making the calls in the production truck has been horrible. I get that there's action going on all over the circuit, and it appears FSN is trying to do a "through the field" rundown in the middle of every race to give all the riders some camera time. but wow, it misses almost all the major position changes live.

So it looks like Cooper Webb has caught the "I must thank my lord and savior" bug from Canard and Dungey. I don't know why so many supercross guys think that's what people want to hear during the podium interview.  It reminds me of the old SNL sketch with Phil Hartman and Sally Field.

Thankfully I dont get to see the interviews, I only get the races.

But in my opinion super and motocross riders are the very worst podium interviewees in motorsport, they only ever say thanks to sponsors, they rarely say anything interesting.

Great ride from Dungey, he is proving doubters wrong. Roczen dropped the bal a little, Tomac was superb again late on, Seely excellent and comng good.

BArcia and Millsaps!  Dump them both now, pathetic

The funny part is that he keeps forgetting the "enough" at the end and just says that he can't thank the lord. Good, you should take the credit. You're a talented, hard working young man.

Awesome stuff from Reed. Just needed a clean race after a torrid run of luck - still a class act. Shocking night from Roczen - fast but flawed. Dungey consistent as ever.

That 250 race was the best of the year, 450 or 250. Great stuff.
