There have been threads on this forum re the movie Grand Prix which have unused footage or stills, I was wondering if there was anything similar out there from Le Mans?............Martin

there should be tons of out-takes from the film....whether the film company has kept them is another thing entirely!

Hi Guys,

I'm actually currently working on the promotion of the film McQueen: The Man & Le Mans, which is a documentary following the multi-layered backstory behind the filming of the 1971 racing epic!

On the note of out-takes, I'd keep your eyes peeled for the The Man & Le Mans updates, you may get some pleasant surprises http://blog.themanlemans.com. We have also just realised a teaser trailer which you can view here: http://blog.themanle...re-delighted-to

Alternatively if you are interested, sign up to the mailing list to see more of whats happening behind the scenes: http://www.themanlem...iling-list.html

Please let me know if you have any further questions,
Genevieve

What about footage from "Day of the Champion" the Steve McQueen film that got canned? Any footage of that survive?

Hi Stephen,

During our exhaustive research process, we managed to uncover more information on 'Day Of The Champion' than had ever been previously discovered. However, in editing our mass of available on-screen materials down to a 100-minute feature, we've decided to concentrate more on the extraordinary story behind the making of 'Le Mans'. But Steve McQueen's desire to top 'Grand Prix' and make up for the disappointment of 'Day Of The Champion' not having made it to the big screen will still form an important part of our film's story.

Hope this helps

Genevieve

For those in the UK, or who can receive BBC4, at 21.00 UK time this evening, 'Steve McQueen: Le Mans and the Man'. Followed by 'Hunt v Lauda'.

Thanks John.  TV could finally become interesting again!

So, hopefully, in the current climate, we might also see some more uplifting films -  e.g. Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines, Monte Carlo or Bust, It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World - or anything with Terry-Thomas really . . .

Keep well, everybody.  Please.

Great choices those Mark, especially the TT point! Mind you I've watched Two Way Stretch and The Long Arm of the Law recently on Ch 328

It was my friend Richard Wiseman who eventually found the 'Le Mans' out-takes.

The interesting thing that came out of the programme was that after the 1970 race McQueen completely turned his back on racing, never returned to it.
