Once the yellow Vallelunga was sold by Bonhams at Goodwood, it perked me up on the values of these cars. I was wondering, why they called it a Competition car when I think the first owner, Col. Ronnie Hoare of Maranello Concessionaires put in a Lotus engine and Colotti and then sold it to an Australian who raced it, but I wouldn't call a car a Competition unless it was built by the factory as a Comp car, I would say "road car turned race car" but if you look at Bonhams pictures, nothing about it looks competition.
But I also remember visiting a Swedish chap some 25 years ago who was racing a Vallelunga, I thought he told me he bought it in GB. It was a fiberglass one, and later sold off. I was wondering if anybody remembers that one and what that one sold for in which year? Perhaps that was Col. Hoare's car earlier? I am trying to keep track of prices cars sold for before the current book in prices which makes everything interesting today over 100K USD.
Almost unrelated, a fellow with the improbable name of Joe Alphabet in Huntington Beach, CA had a Vallelunga with a widened rear body and wider rear wheels that he said was a Competition car . I was wondering if any Vallelunga fans can affirm the factory ever built one with a wider rear body and wider rear wheels?
Final related Vallelunga question. the 1962 open car, painted light blue, possibly bodied in alloy by Fissore. Was that the car that was raced by Bernebei? Did it really ever win a race? I gather that was sold by the factory when they sold a quantity of cars out of the factory museum. Does anybody know where that car is today?
Thanks for any answers,
