Well deserved title. His consistency this year was mind blowing . I really hope that Mercedes will keep him in single seaters (GP2).

Ocon keeps his title.
He was summonded by stewards after the race for the start but they decided to no take further actions.

Champion via most 2nd places (well, and 1 win). Reminds me a little of Oriol Servia in Indy Lights 1999.

To me more Keke Rosberg in F1 in 1982.
Strangely both had number 6 on their winning cars.

He won championship with only one win (and that was in the first race of the season)
But it's worth to note that he actually won 2 more times, or let's better say 'crossed the line first', but victories were taken away from him (by imo pretty bad stewarding). In spa he won but was penalised after the race for breaching vsc rules and in abu dhabi victory is taken from him cause he went off the track once, which is just ridiculous. So, actually it should have been 3 wins from him, but ok...
Ocon was on the podium 14 times in a season! Previous record of the most podiums in the season was 9 by Gutierrez in 2010.
It could have been 16 actually. He also finished on the podium in 2nd race in austria, but was later disqualified for some little technical infringement on the car, and another one is abu dhabi and that stupid penalty.
That many podiums in a season, in a series with reverse grid races is just crazy.

Also worth saying this was his rookie season, although I still maintain that the year in F3 (also a rookie title!!) counts as preparation to some extent.

Yes, but i don't remember any GP3 champion coming straight from F4 or Formula Renault 2.0 Liter.
Gutierrez went from F3
Bottas from 2 years in F3.
Evans from australian F3.
Kvyat had a double programm F3/GP3/ (he won his first gp3 race after 28 races in 2013)
Lynn went from 2 years in F3
I would say that GP3 by its own specifications is quite a difficult category to manage without some F3 or higher powered car experience.

TBH I found Ghiotto more impressive than Ocon given that he wasn't with the top team and didn't have Ocon's experience and backing.

He's been racing at least as long a Ocon, and already did a year of Renault 3.5?

Ghiotto is older, has more racing experience and had taken part in two GP3 weekends before this season. That's before taking into account that Red Bull have been working very closely, if not officially with him.
I like Ghiotto, but he's clearly not been as impressive as Ocon.

Ghiotto had a great season but he seemed to loose his edge from Spa onwards.
His poor start and mistake in his battle with Ceccon but did not loose too much points with a light penalty + VSC mess which caused Ocon's penalty.
Then in Monza he stalled while having a mamoth advantage in straight line speed recovered but still he lost 18 points on Ocon.
From Sotchi he was no longer the fastest.
Since race 1 Monza Ocon took 10 points per meeting from Ghiotto , there was a trend developping.
It was not a huge decline for Ghiotto but a regular one, surprisingly Janosz improved his own performances when Ghiotto's performances got worse.
