If you mean rocker covers, they're too long for a V4...

Height is wrong too, and marginal in width. Unless they're for an engine with an unusual head.

Thanks for your interest so far.

At present we think they may be from a VW Type4 engine as fitted in the Bay Window VW Campers and Porsche 912/914 but cannot find a Broadspeed connection anywhere. The shallow nature suits the VW heads with their raised mating surface around the valve gear.

Try checking with Andy Rouse or Tony Dron, Both still about, and both good blokes. They may recall something

ISTR that there was also another lot called the same name in Essex? who dealt in old style  Minis in the 90s to 2000s.

First thought was VW but I dismissed that as completely out of character for Broadspeed!

Could they have been done as a lunchtime fill-in by an employee?

VW seems logical, they have (as has been mentioned) that kind of raised wall around the rockers as would be needed to use something of that dimension. Or maybe a Porsche?

It seems that these are indeed for a VW Type 4 engine - these were used in Formula Super Vee in period.

Broadspeed were involved building Formula Vee and Super Vee engines (although documentation is scant).

Have a look at this link and zoom in on the engine picture - https://www.bonhams....13184/lot/1003/

I'd still be interested in any further comments please.

Many Thanks

Andy

And I thought you might be interested in these comments from one of my colleagues in the Morgan world.

Any further comments very welcome please.

Andy

"The castings are Rocker Covers for a Super Vee engine built by Broadspeed in 1973 specifically for a race at Daytona, the engines produced 165 bhp and were fastest in Practice but were deemed to be ‘outwith the spirit of the regulations’ and banned. The rocker covers were made in the USA not by Broadspeed, Ralph would never have gone to that expense.....(information source) from a very good friend of mine who drove for Broadspeed in period. "

I've been away for a few days, and missed this. Yep...VW Type 4, or Porsche 914.
