If it was at Monaco having it turn into a submarine would be good, especially if near Maldonado.

So, 6th and 7th on the grid. We seem to have slipped back a place or two of late. Which is a shame as overtaking does not seem to be a strong point for the current car/driver combinations we have .....
But let's see; with good long run pace and strategy calls we might still gain a place or two*.

I like the cut of your jib as an optimist. We'll come 3rd/4th I reckon (after the Mercs take themselves out in a blaze of Nico rage!) I think the weird weather lately and the circuits haven't worked to our benefit and I hope we're switching more resources to the FW38 to come up with another rocket ship for next year!

I think the likely wet weather will be an issue even if the Mercs will take themselve out

Looks like we did indeed put in anti-Kimi impact bars! Not a bad result at all for the team. Bottas proved he can race hard and Massa was... Massa. 3rd and 6th is a good result for us really.

Good result, about time to be honest. Both drivers (especially Bottas) have been very unlucky this year and I think that's flown under the radar for most people.

That was good from Valtteri; nice pass after the SC for third place. Filipe was half a second off Valtteri's pace in the last 12 laps or so otherwise he would have had Ricciardo...

Great to be on the podium! A solid race from Valtteri and Felipe. I wish Felipe had overtaken at least 1 car in the restart, but 8/10 regardless.
Edit: Love the anti-Kimi bars

Bottas has been really doing well in the last few races, he has just deservedly passed Kimi in the Championship and could have been more ahead in points, if it wasn't some incidents beyond his control. I am a fan of Massa, but is clear to me Bottas has found some more pace lately and has been holding a decisively 2-3 tenths ahead of Massa. Even though the distance in points between them is close, I expect Bottas to finish ahead this season again, unless Massa up his game. Brazil could help him there.

Great result for Bottas, let's hope he can defend it until the end of the season.
We have proved over the last two seasons that we are a force again and it has been great to see Massa have a good run in that period, I always liked him and felt he got a bad deal while Nando was at Ferrari. We really need to aim higher next season though and I think that's going to mean focussing on Bottas and making Massa an out-and-out number two again. I don't think we can give two drivers equal status with our resources and the one who is most likely to challenge Hamilton and Vettel is Bottas not Massa.

Absolutely ridiculous when there's no big disparity in competitiveness between the two.Great result for Bottas, let's hope he can defend it until the end of the season.

True that. But Alonso's gap to Massa basically doubled the moment he became the number one driver.

That's not what happened at all.True that. But Alonso's gap to Massa basically doubled the moment he became the number one driver.
Massa has always done well when the car is good. The 2010 Ferrari was pretty damn good. Not the best, but it was regularly competitive throughout the year. It was no surprise to see the gap between Massa and Alonso smaller than it was in subsequent years, when the car was undeniably worse, exacerbated by Alonso being brilliant in less-than-good cars.
Alonso also only ever got no.1 attention once the season had progressed far enough along to where it was clear who was getting outgunned. Alonso just happened to do this each and every season with Massa as a teammate. But he was never given default no.1 status from the get-go. It was just him doing a better job with mediocre cars.
Before making this seem like it's completely off-topic - the point here is, Massa has been genuinely competitive against Bottas. I think I'd definitely give Bottas the nod overall, but he hasn't dominated Massa to some degree that he has earned any no.1 status. I also dont believe any driver should ever get no.1 status by default. It has to be earned, and each season should be a reset. It also doesn't make any sense to do so unless you're in with a chance at a championship. Otherwise, there's no reason to give anything less than equal treatment.

I don't disagree with you with Massa being competetive overall against Bottas. My point is more that I don't think Williams have the resources right now to support two drivers competing equally and push to the next level against other teams. That means picking a number one driver and I think Bottas is more likely to be able to sustain an attack on the title than Massa. I'd be willing to be proved wrong though as I have always likes Massa, even back in the late 2000s [sarcasm] when it was unfashionable to do so [/sarcasm].

They are bringing upgrades that work through the season and sometimes it goes to only one driver that weekend.
They always choose the driver with the most points, so they are in essence giving their best driver preference.
Williams need more resources to take the next step. Until that happens they will always be fighting for best of the rest.
Next season could be tough for them if renault factory team is capable.

Why would Williams piss off Massa (and probably breach contract) to support Bottas when he's only performed slightly better and nowhere near a title hunt anyway?
I think 3rd in the championship for 2 consecutive years is an outstanding result, probably not as spectacular as last year but they had more time to prepare for 2014. Williams have had some reasonable seasons since the end of BMW, but usually followed them up with an awful season (except for 09/10 when they got a head start with double diffuser).
Will be a more difficult balance during next season as the changes for 2017 could be quite big.

It's the firs race this year where I see Bottas doing Better than Massa, for some reason he managed to set up his car better for the primes and Massa couldn't switch them on after the restart.
Call for a 1st driver status based on that? Williams have a fair system; the driver in front gets preference on pitstops, the driver in front in the championship gets the update if there's only one piece available.

Bottas has been impressive since missing out on the podium in Monza vs. Massa.
Felipe looks to be over-driving in the practice sessions, a lot of sliding, pushing very hard, expected.

Bottas has upped his game recently. Unfortunately I can't see Williams to be real title challenger even if they doubled their budget. Mrecedes has their ways to keep the customers at bay.

bottas may have had a slight improvement in performance since summer, but even before he wasn't so much performing poorly, as was just bafflingly luckless: missing first race, verstappen puncturing bottas' tyre in hungary, the tyre cock-up in belgium, kimi taking him out in russia. these things are worth 30-50 points, which would put him comfortably fourth in standings.

It's pretty bad news that Force India have reeled in Williams given where they were at the beginning of the year. It looks like they're just going to slide further backwards next season.
