Which is also a personal opinion, isnt it?I genuinely have no personal opinion on him, but if you think he's the best sports presenter on UK tv then as I say, you can't watch too much sport, as he's not even the best presenter on BT Sport.

i thought the same at the start of 09 but he grew into the role and him with dc and eddie really connected with the viewers and was good to watch. He is a good presenter(much better than perry), his job was to present and keep the show moving it didn't matter if he was not an f1 nut thats what the pundits are for and i thought he put plenty of enthusiasm into it.
That pretty much sums it up for me. I particularly enjoyed the forums with the three of them seemingly getting far more from the paddock characters than Sky has ever managed.

Doesn't James Richardson do a couple of shows on BT Sport? In which case no, it's an objective fact that Humphrey isn't the best.
I doubt he's an F1 fan though, so Jake might have to do.

Of course it is, as there is no BT Sport presenter of the year trophy.
James Richardson btw. Criminally underrated.

I don't think DC would be great as lead anchor. He doesn't have enough umph. Strong second in command, but not a front man.

Not seen him cover any live sport - he presents a chat show which is pre-scripted, and vastly different to the type of presenter I was talking about. To my knowledge he presents a magazine show about sport but doesn't prevent any actual sport coverage.

I knew that - but isn't it scripted? Very different type of role to what Jake did.
Anyway, Jake being the best was clearly hyperbole, but when someone says they'd prefer Suzi Perry, there is something wrong somewhere. She couldn't string a sentence together nevermind know what she's talking about.

It's after the event for a lot of the games, but there are also Sunday evening games running while the show's on, or games that have just finished.

It isn't confirmed he is lead anchor is it? Just that he is part of the C4 F1 team. That is all that is announced.
Either way, I stand by my comment. DC is a great addition to any presenting team, just not as the lead.

The fact that he's pulled out of hosting Top Gear so quickly after being announced suggests to me that his role will be very large within the C4 coverage.
What planet are you on?
Coulthard was never announced as a Top Gear presenter.
The Beeb exited F1 so people speculated - after being at the BBC - DC would join Top Gear, that's all it was. He didn't pull out of Top Gear, he was never part of Top Gear. It was never announced.
It was almost a forgone conclusion that Whisper Films would produce Channel 4's F1 coverage. Seeing as they are part owned by Channel 4 and have produced other motorsport programmes in the past.
DC is integral to Whisper Films, so in my opinion it was never likely he would be a Top Gear host, it was blind speculation by tabloids and forums. His sights were always set on continuing as part of the terrestrial coverage on Channel 4.
#2473
Posted 13 January 2016 - 16:15
Exactly
The only people I have seen confirmed anywhere for Top gear are Chris Harris and Sabine with the ginger.
So DC was never a part of it, and in my eyes the team they have is already far too race based, they need someone like May who is simply a car fan not a petrol head like Sabine and Harris.
The jobs for the boys team got it, but i would guess Humphrey is well into a huge BT contract and they will either have to pay him off or get someone else in to front it if DC is not doing so.

I have a friend who works with a friend who's brother's wife works for a company who employs someone who has a sister who works for Channel 4 who said it'll be a hologram of James Hunt commentating with Alex Yoong and Gaston Mazzacane as pundits. Will Young will co-host with Karen Gillan.

I still wouldn't rule out Suzi Perry as host. The situation is very fluid at the moment given so many people ran out of their contracts as the BBC coverage ended. They have very little time to finalise things so may just grab who is available the easiest for year one.

Webber has WEC commitments. So if he were to sign up he wouldn't be full time.

I guess if you only have 3 months to get a commentary team up and running you might well go for a tried and tested team, especially as I guess most of the (good) alternative choices might well have already signed contracts for the season even if some numpty regards it as 'jobs for the boys'

It's really important to have people that know the sport. There's no point appointing a whole new team just for the sake of it. It's not like the BBC 'lost' the contract because the coverage wasn't any good.

He was a lot less shouty twenty years ago. Just listen to this, which I think was the first qualifying session he did live and where he had a familiar guest commentator.Disappointed about Ben Edwards if true. He's as bad as Croft, shouty and often incorrect. Little strategic vision.
