I've been trying for years' to find a picture/photo of Jack Brett competing in the 1952 Swiss GP,

the first GP race of that season, and the first 500cc win for Brett and last for the AJS  'Porc. The team were, incidentally, running

1951 bikes, as did half the team in the next round, the TT. By the way, why am I asking this question? Surely there is a race by race,

year by year historical resource-book out there (theres tens' of F1 ONES).

Yes there is, I was kindly given the MotoGP Results book 1949-2010 guide by Werner Haefliger which covers 125, 250 and 500 classes over those years, and their later equivalents. Perhaps surprisingly, you'll also get quite a lot of old results off the MotoGP website, if you chase up motogp.com>results>Latest results...there you will find a timeline running from 1949, just select a year, a class, hit Race and the top ten results are there in most cases.

The 1952 Swiss GP was run on May 18th at Berne, 28 laps, 126.67 miles : Brett won by 20.6 secs from team-mate Bill Doran, followed by Bandirola (MV), Pagani (Gilera),Rod Coleman on the third AJS and Ray Amm's Norton one lap down. Brett also set fastest lap.

Hope this is of some help. :)

Thanks for the info. I have a few of those results books, plus Michael Scott's offerings and Cameron's latest on the technical side of the sport

(what a total hash that was!!) but I like images and am so jealous of the way F1 is treated as opposed motorcycles  in terms of publishing.

You can get anything from Mortons' in terms of race reports but require a big bank balance!! (I researched, for fun over summer a couple ago, the

year 1952 - chosen as it was the last competitive year  for Norton and had some magnificent Italo- englese duals - and it cost me over $100 bucks for four photo's

and race reports).

Yep, they have some great stuff but are savage when the total is added up. What was it you found so offensive about Cameron's last work ? I thought it was quite economically and accessibly written without going into too much tech-speak like that Tony Sakkis book.

Yeah. maybe I was too tough it's just that I didn't learn anything new - nay, I did learn that Gilera, unusually, didn't

use the Hirth cranks in practice, saving them for the race proper !!  (the mechanics must have earnt their dough).
