Off subject. Are Jensens still made?  Those Interceptors were an interesting car. With a heart of pure US Mopar. Though the British manufacture was obvious in the lack of thought for servicing. I used to service one! Budget model with the base 383.

Still a nice thing to drive though.

And thanks to our raving reporter!

The Vauxhall Camira [or whatever] in the background of the green Caleche. Local to me. I used to sponsor his son in decades past.

? I doubt it has a 350. Though it is a mystery to me too.  bigger than 3500cc I feel sureThe only people I have known with them are long dead.

That green Mk2 seems to have the wrong shape engine? They were all big straight sixes were they not.

Daimlers of about that vintage had V8s,,I think?

Four big Healeys and they all seem to have different indicators

My 50s pedal car  [nominally A40] is still being used. The modern ones seem to take about  a years use.

I think that is why the pedal car collectors love them, they are so tough.

Those flash looking A7s would be Meteors...

IMG_1541_zps2baf046a.jpg

And this one is a Lotus Cortina, probably pre-67 though it may have been delivered here in '67.

Sort of as found. It does go I believe. It can be yours,,, For Sale!

The Yellow Meteor is original, the red one  built from a body.

The Dover A7 Tow truck! is big block powered,, no not a Chev,, Suzuki running gear.

I have put it on here at Uraidla and the Cruise last week. it does turn heads.

As does the 'patina' A7 and the little tractor.

Shiny paint is so last years. The uglier the better!

Interesting the way they ( not the current owner ) have tapered the air dam to allow for the driver effecting the air stream.

The idea of having splitters on a basic sports car seems to me to just add something to bend.

Do you realise that Richard posts here occasionally?

I had quite a long conversation with him.

I lamented the complexity at the time, & queried him about adjusting all the aero stuff.

His comment was that once he's got the engine reliabilty settled, he'll get around to playing with the aero.

As you know, the Mallocks started out as clubmans, but Arthur loved trying new stuff, & gradually

they evolved into what we see here.

The organizers wanted them to race. There were lots of them & they put on good races, so they went along with it,

& eventually the category changed completely.

Perhaps for the better..................

I like the car............I thought it was the most interesting car there.

I guess I'm thinking about the days when a new chum could get racing on a small budget,

& hopefully when he biffed the car, the repairs would be manageable money-wise.

The extensive bodywork means there's so much more to repair or replace.

This was my first long look at one of these things, & it really is a racing car with the seat

offset.

I just wish there had been a way to improve the clubman idea without so radically altering the concept.

just nostalgia..............

They used to be clubmans, but by the eighties, they had all this aero crap all over them.

Interesting the way they ( not the current owner ) have tapered the air dam to allow for the driver effecting the air stream.

The idea of having splitters on a basic sports car seems to me to just add something to bend.

I'll calm down now, with an arty shot.

G'day Lynton. Thanks for your extensive coverage. I was too busy providing photo opportunities for little kids to actually have a look at the other cars. (If I'd charged 5 bucks for every kid who sat in the car I'd have paid for this year's racing...!)

Actually, there WAS a way to improve the clubman idea without radically altering the concept - new materials and Japanese motors. When I left Sydney in 2005 the PRB Clubmans were running full fields at Oran Park & Wakefield.

Cheers Richard,

You gave their dads a thrill at least !!

I've followed the sport for long enough to know that it's not going to get cheaper,

but I'm amazed at how the rule-makers seem to have such flexibilty with the rules they enforce

when certain individuals want something changed or ignored  to suit themselves.

It has ever been so, but it leaves the main body of competitors scrambling to keep up all the time.

Now you're in historics, at least you won't need to develop the car any further.

It will just be a case of doing races as economically as you can & enjoying yourself.

You always have to develop a racecar,, or you will get left behind!
