Cant really see why they went there in the first place, they just outspent everyone in a totally ridiculous way and ruined the series that was hardly in tye best of health when they showed up

Glad they are leaving Wtcc

This is a common theme in autosport, watch Ford ruin GT racing next year with their new Ford GT

I can't think of anything in racing that Ford have achieved since the GT40 outside NASCAR. So no great hopes for the latest effort.

They did dominate the BTCC in 2000, although admittedly against a depleted field, and didn't do too badly during the loeb era in the WRC getting a manufacturers title or two if I am not mistaken...

The new Ford GT looks to me a purpose build race car, that happens to be street legal, to an extend similar to the Mercedes CLR and the Porsche GT1.

A pretty damning statement of their world Motorsport 'success'.

Indycar championship with Nigel Mansell in 1993 and Indy 500 with Jacques Villeneuve in 1995.

Nearly winning stuff with Hirvonen doesn't count?

People are forgetting they utterly dominated Group A Touring cars for a long time, and on some tracks could hold their own with a full works Godzilla, the car that ruined Group A racing.
But Ford are not a power, neither are GM really.
The new car will be decent, but unless they sell it to everyone the grid will still be largely Ferraris and Astons.
M Sport do a good job in rallying with their cars, the full amchine has never been a match apart from the car Martin drove, that was the best WRC car for a year. Other than that theri cars ahve always been good but not good enough.
But their lower level stuff is good. But they never quite hit the mark, S2000 they did OK then Skoda and peugeot battered them, S1600 they used a Puma lol!

Good news for 2016 as WTCC is changing race format: reverse grid for race 1 and "normal" grid for a longer race 2.

Will Citroen get some proper competition next year?? I'm glad Loeb is out of it, and can have a proper challenge in XC Rallies.

Watching some of the old videos on Youtube, 5 Sierra RS500s at the front of the field look bloody spectacular.

I ahve to be honest risil, I was there, it was amazing, the cars were very hard to drive, sounded amazing and the who,e thing was backed up with the M3's, the one off stuff liek Supras, Holdens and Maseratis and also the great clas battles.
Super Touring was fabulous, but rather OTT in terms of budget.
And I hvaent watched a BTCC race for years, so it seems maybe touring car racing at least in world terms has had its time.
