No Amber Lounge for this victory...

I would have pegged The Captain as a Waffle House man...

You need to have a little Atlas/Autosport historical perspective for the joke to work

It's nothing personal I can assure you.

But I am sure he was either beat up regularly as a kid or a total bully.

I stopped by at the Champs pit . He was in a jovial and courteous mood.

Then he saw the newest member of the $hithead club and he went all ...meh.

He was a wrestler in high school.  Seriously.

He knows what you've been saying, he knows when you're awake, he knows when you've been bad or good...eh, you get the gist.

Soon the race started and I ran into an old friend...she seemed perturbed and unhappy but it may have just been my proximity to her that soured the moment.

She either thought you were Hope, or some of Hope rubbed off on you, or you were channeling Hope...or something.

Sort of reminds me when a friend of mine took his Polaroid (remember those?) to the final day of high school. He wanted to snap some photos of friends, plus get some of the total babes we went to school with. Some were cool about it, one simply glared and stared him down

Poll - Why is there no option for 'only road courses'??? Seems like an obvious choice, on a road-racing site.

The only Nascar races I watch are the road races. LOVE seeing those big cars lumbering around the track!

I might watch Daytona, desperate for a race. But I generally zip through most of it, and watch the crashes. I have no one to root for in the series. (not that I have in F1 or Indy, either. But I find that racing more interesting)

And... The barriers are nice, and I'm glad to see them going up all over. Yet, they won't be. There will always be a spot that isn't covered, or well enough. And I'm not sure a barrier would have helped Kyle that much. That was a bad hit!  And that's the problem with wrecks - you NEVER know when or where they will happen. Bianchi hitting the crane, Danica spinning backwards with a truck on the track, JPM hitting the jet-dry... Which track had the driver spin into the pits - and the opening along the wall sliced deeply into his car. Inches behind the seat? All these are YOW moments, unforeseen. and hard to cover. I hope F1's virtual yellow works well.

And Kurt - I'm generally all for athletes getting the boot for abuse. But this just smells funny. I've read he has anger issues. Maybe more. And Nascar does NOT want to look like the NFL. But he was a big star for the series. To ban him like that seems quite drastic. And do we really know what happened? I think I'd fly my motor home to Europe, Brazil, or Oz, and start racing there. Nascar's decision seemed to come awfully fast. Faster than she reported it to the police. They both sound nuts!

Is there an official NASCAR 2015 thread?

I live in NYC and want to go to a race this year. I know there's Watkins Glen upstate. Is there any other circuit nearby which isn't too far away and tends to have better racing?

Pocono is in that region, but isn't that interesting (aside from the restarts after someone throws a lunchbox onto the track). :p

I guess if you stretch a bit there's RIR (Richmond, VA).

Do you know I've never watched a whole NASCAR big class road race.
