In a thread below called

First competition (race) event for a Lotus Elan.

Some kind repliers have come up with Kevin Keegan as debuting the Elan on the track.

I start this as another thread to try to ascertain the capacity that Keegan ran with. It was at a time when there were a few 1500cc Elans around, but I suspect and am hoping we can prove it was the 1558 - or bigger than 1500 - version that his Elan used for this meeting

Does anyone have a programme from this meeting that can determine this please, or any other knowledge of this Elan.

- thanks ... Ed

With all the typo's and mis-information I have seen printed in programmes, that's quite a leap of faith!

True. I hadn't even noticed myself that there was a swap of the 5 and 8 - "1585" as opposed to "1558". However, I should make it clear that the programme itself definitely states, rightly or wrongly, 1585.

In looking for the Keegan entry I had also entirely overlooked the fact that a second Elan was entered for C.Hodgson - also stated as having a 1585cc engine. This car was not mentioned in the report ( nor are non-starters marked off in the programme) but potentially it could have been a joint debut.

I have also gone back to the Snetterton 28 April programme and the three Elans that were listed all were shown as 1585cc.

Hodgson (entrant B Kemp) was a non-starter. I was there and crossed him out and he was not on the grid given by the commentator.

I asked the question on another forum, a member there kindly looked it up and reports that Autosport on the 29th March edition stated that an Elan was entered for the Snetterton International on the 30th March. The report of the race in the Autosport of the 5th April did not mention an Elan racing.
