Actually out of the nine seasons that I watched 2014 was second worst behind his predecessor 2013. Mercedes' dominance completely killed the excitement, I don't care whether is Hamilton or Rosberg that win (I'm not British maybe that's why). No other competition! Even in 2004 four teams won races and Schumacher had to fight hard for some of his victories, no team has enjoyed such gap in 21st century. And please not post "Red Bull 2011".
In 2004, he won the WDC in the fifth-last GP weekend of the season (in Belgium). Who cares, whether three teams achieve one win resprectively and cannot do anything regarding the WDC (2004) or whether one team achieves three wins and cannot do anything regarding the WDC (2014).
And in 2002, he did even win the WDC in France... I repeat: in France... I mean when did France "take place" usually? I mean that was kinda middle of the season or shortly after mid season. Additional to that, in 2004/2002, the teammate of the WDC was a) by far not good enough to fight for the WDC till the very end and b) had, of course, much more bad luck than the WDC winner. Those are super comfortable frame conditions for the WDC winner. Hamilton didn't have that luxury in 2014.
In 2014, despite all the utter domination, both Mercedesses fought till the very last race of the season. It was still kinda suspenseful in 2014. I mean it was similar to 1996. Incredibly dominating team but fighting between the two teammates until the very last race where one of the drivers had bad luck and because of that the final points' standing in the WDC didn't look that close between the two teammates. So Rosberg is, at least, someone like JVilleneuve. Barrichello was nowhere like that "category".
And 2014 showed something else: a first-class fight between two drivers which lasted for many laps. Apart from the Bahrain2014 fight, only Dijon1979 was maybe more exciting.
Regarding 2011 or 2013: Webber was not able to fight for the championship. It wasn't like that the RB7 or RB9 wasn't great but Vettel was someone extremely special. No, it was the other way round. Webber was not really good enough. I mean, in 2014, the car wasn't (that) special and Vettel lost big time (or, let's put it this way, didn't convince at all). Conclusion: the RedBulls were overall super great in 2011/2013.
