Macca from Australia All Over(ABC Radio) this morning played a interview with Leo from a Chrysler Show/Shine(?) day, very interesting esp. the early days at Bathurst in a Humpy, this was followed about an hour later with a few word from Colin Bond who is Holidaying in Tassy.Should be on a podcast somewhere to those who missed it.

Quiet a treat to hear Leo reminiscing about the early days...loved the bit about the Bathurst officials going up to Tom concerned about his young blokes driving style...Tom asked how far under the lap record he was...3 Seconds!...Tom thought it would be more than that!
Also interesting to hear Leo talking about achieving 104 MPH on the speedo of his Humpy...god knows what his actual speed was

A bit more than 104, for sure ! Reminds me of the speedo needle on my Beetle pointing at the oil pressure light, on Con-Rod straight. It was timed at 102 MPH.

Not being able to see the oil pressure light wouldn't help, either.

As the funeral service for Leo is currently taking place, or indeed just finished, it would be nice for an attendee to cobble together some words about his sendoff please?

The funeral went well today with a huge crowd and many old faces. There was not as much of a Lotus presence as might have been expected but there were plenty of reminders of Leo's career achievements.

I guess there would have been several hundred in attendance...

Thanks Paul. Don't be afraid to expand on that though (or anybody else in attendance).
I'm sure a few competitors from Philip Island would have liked to have been able to be at Leo's send off.

Max reckons that he was pretty surprised at how old everyone was...

Jim Bertram wasn't well enough to attend, though he would certainly have done so if he could.

How did Max go with his eulogy?
I guess there would have been several hundred in attendance...
The eulogies were led by Leo's sister, Marie-Louise, and one of his daughters who spoke well about his early life and family involvement with an element of humour which lightened things up just a little. Reg Singh spoke on behalf of the Chrysler clubs and Max finished it up with a summary of Leo's motor sport career which was backed up with a pretty comprehensive video presentation and went over quite well. As mentioned in an earlier post it surprised me that there was not more of a linkage to Lotus given Leo's commitment to the marque and the successes he enjoyed with it both commercially and on the track.
There was a huge crowd at the church and a very large number of us went on to the Liverpool Catholic Club.

Thanks again, Paul.
The following link will only remain open until 3/4/15, but it has some nice tributes and memories about Leo. Not least a bit of humour about the Geoghegans at the Carrington Hotel during a Catalina Park meeting.

Thank You Stephen...some fine tributes there.
As for the hijinks, I have heard that the Hydro Majestic used to ring bells at 1800 as the signal for all and sundry to return to their own rooms and get ready for dinner. I wonder if the Carrington had a similar "protocol"

Probably though Catalina Park would know for sure. I can recall my mother mentioning something along those lines but she worked at the Palais Royale and not the other two..
Sounds like a deserved send of for Leo. RIP.

A Geoghegan Carrington story that I do recall from a couple of sources involved Ian Geoghegan leaping from the balcony in the main bar (now called Champaigne Charlies Bar) and trying to swing from the chandelier, in one version 'Pete' landed on the grand piano with a great crash, the other version he landed on the floor.
If anyone has ever seen that chandelier they will realise how lucky it was that he missed!

The video is average quality. It was extremely windy at the venue that weekend. I will bring it to the Greenacre reunion if it goes ahead.

Thought this was an interesting shot of Leo in the Lotus 39 restored back to green/yellow stripe livery at Warwick Farm in Nov 1970
