I noticed Sowery was testing AutoGP recently, odd choice for someone with little single-seater experience.

it's not odd at all, Toby Sowery drove the MRF Challenge (with 2.0 liter Dallara-Renault's) in India and won that championship this winter.

Pizzonia, really?

Shouldn't he do something more, mature?

He's surely of an age when he should be taking up knitting.....

He was driving and winning some races in Auto GP the last seasons...

He isn't racing F3 or FR Eurocup like most of his peers though.

What about Kiss returning for a championship assault? Or Giovesi?

So nine cars for round 1, will this series last out the season? I understood they were merging with FA1 for make for bigger grids but it obviously hasn't worked.

Unfortunately there just doesn't seem to be the interest in a non-F!-feeder series international open-wheel championship

The merger did not happen.

I think series like Auto-GP has no place in the modern world of Formula Racing as for example the Formula Holden in the past.

I think there is a place for a non-feeder Formula series, a place for older drivers or people not fussed with getting into F1 to race competitively. An equivalent to all the GT series out there - which are for people who just want to enjoy racing.

Unfortunately I guess the enormous cost of this sort of racing is what puts people off.

The champion this year was supposed to get an F1 test. I wonder if that still stands.

Uff. Only 8 cars in Silverstone and just 6 of them participated in Q2 (Regalia got pole ahead of Pizzonia). This is worse than Indy Lights.
