I have attended a number of GPs over the years, both nationally and internationally, and, I have to say, my recent trip to Jerez, where I attended three of the four days of testing, exceeded my expectations in almost every respect.

If anyone is considering attending one of these tests, or would like to ask me any type of question on any subject related to this trip, be it in relation to flights, car hire, parking at the circuit, the price of tickets, the areas of the circuit which are available to each type of ticket, facilities available at the circuit, what is viewable from each grandstand or questions on any other points, I will be only too happy to provide feedback.

Were you able to have a Pit walk?

Other than lesser crowds, what added to your experience?

If you just go as general admission then no - no pit walk. However it is relatively cheap to book hospitality which gives paddock access and possibly the chance to get into the pits (it depends on what hospitality you book I would guess and the circuit - Barcelona do one for hospitality guests but I don't think Jerez do. (Silverstone did do a pit-walk after the mid-season test last year for an extra £10 for the public but there is no test there this year, I have no idea what Austria will do).

Positives from testing (apart from lack of crowds which is great as you can move around and always get a good spot to watch, take photos etc) - it is much more relaxed, you have the whole day so can easily wander around the entire circuit and watch from as many spots as you wish (this is usually limited to 3 or 4 places on a GP weekend from my experience) Better value for money - its much cheaper. Also I think the tracks can offer better access - Jerez you can get very close to the cars in places and there are some great viewing spots, and in Barcelona they open up some areas that I think they don't for the GP (or save for VIPs). My favourite spot in Barcelona is the inside of turns 1 and 2 and I'm pretty sure this isn't an option when trying to buy GP tickets. Also Barcelona do offer circuit tours where they show you round the paddock/podium etc and drive you round the circuit roads to watch the cars from. I think it cost E50 more than the entrance ticket but is a cheapish way if you were interested in seeing that side of things without the cost running into hundreds for hospitality packages.
