Mike Joy just said "Ryan Newman finished just one point behind Kevin Harvick for the championship last year" and for reasons beyond comprehension no one who heard this news suffered the instant brain aneurysm it should have given all of us.

I think my brain just went into 'safe mode'. I remember hearing what was said and I am amazed that I am not dead.

I stopped listening to FOX after hearing Darrel Waltrip talking about "hot air vortexes" and testimonies on aerial blimps.

His ideas of filling dead air is the best.

Whenever I think of filling a void with meaningless drivel, Darrel is the man for the job.

This thread is far more interesting than the race. I was hoping Truex could pull it out too. I like underdogs.

Tell me about it. NASCAR needs more power. It seems everyone can easily dial in a given pace and race around more or less easily.

I could not agree more....also the last laps commentary was banal at best .....trying to make out there would be last minute/lap changes to the finishing order.

They were actually faster than 2014 at Vegas. 1.5 mile tracks are setup\engine dependent. The reduction in hp from 850 to about 750 hasn't helped, but last year's race wasn't much different.

I don't remember last year's race, but if you say so I believe it.

Aerodynamic forces are just as much of a problem in some Nascar races as they are in F1. Strung out and difficult to catch/pass the leading car, especially given the amount of slower traffic in a 43-car field. Thanks to the way the yellows fell this time, some guys made a little ground on an alternate strategy (Newman for instance).

I think it's numbing acclimatization to all the rule and points changes over the past 10 years. And knowing they may come up with something next year that makes the present system look reasonable, as has happened with the original chase.

Talk about carrying a team, after Harvick' s streak of top 2s you have the rest of Stewart Haas....
