Good news on all three counts. Actually a night race wouldn't be bad, provided it was held on Saturday.

It was traditional for the race to be under threat before a contract renewal.

It seems very rare that we get much good news in F1 these days, so it's obviously great to hear that. Just isn't the same, starting the season anywhere other than Melbourne.

Great news, on both counts, Love getting up at half past daft for Aus, now if they could bring back Brazil as the finisher...

I'd prefer Suzuka as the finishing race again, but Brazil would be nice too. Certainly better than Abu Dhabi.

It was always kinda fitting that F1 should start the season with a race at dawn and finish with a race late at night

YES! Good news in F1 for once (although suspect the deal was on Bernie's terms...)

Screw you Bahrain/Abu Dhabi/Sochi/Azerbaijan/Qatar/anywhere else with eyes on the first race on the calendar...

Australia is the perfect place to start the season. It never feels right when it starts in Bahrain!

Exactly, it's nothing like waking up at dawn, seeing the sun rising and waiting for the season to begin :) Bahrain 2010 was odd, yes, there was excitement etc but not in Melbourne 2009/2012 proportions, I felt like 2010 Australian GP was the perfect way to start the year. That said the season should end with Brazilian GP with full darkness outside :) Not like 2010, it was awful, thankfully they improved that only to ruin again. I would love to see a race in Europe at night, don't know whether that's technically possible (probably not) but to a night/Saturday race in Australia - a big "no". Actually this year's calendar reminds me of 2012 if you only alternate the run-in.

Suzuka is a great track, but I was never fussed about it as a season finale. Brazil seemed to fit so much better for some reason.

As I remember it, going all the way to Japan for the last race was never popular in the paddock. Adelaide, Interlagos, and even Abu Dhabi seemed to have a better party atmosphere as well.

Great news. Now if we could get Brazil back as the last race. Every time the circus goes to Interlagos, you know that anything could happen. When it goes to Abu Dhabi, you know nothing will happen.

I don't know why this is news now, the deal was signed and widely publicised back in August.

Really? I thought they all liked going to the Log Cabin for the end of season party, especially if someone had won the title.
