'Bathurst- The Big Three.

Looking through You Tube this afternoon and came across this interesting clip    'Bathurst- The Big Three' 4 Corners 1970

Quite interesting, introduced by Mike Willessee and feature Oran Pk footage, A bit at Sandown  and a deal with H, Al Turner and John Ellis. And Leo Geoghan. Even some footage inside Harrys Workshop and of the padlocks at Mahoneys Rd!!

And the furore was HDT funded by the dealers! And John Roxborough whinging!

Worth a look for anyone interested in those cars.

Yeah...Thank You Lee...your post included exactly what I needed to go straight to the item being discussed...

[EDIT - POST VIEWING:

Big 3 ignored the little BMC's!

Cute to see the Coca Cola boy getting free advertising on the ABC

John Ellis came across as quite mature and astute beyond his years (which were wet behind them)

Great to see Leo featured and he spoke quite eloquently

Good to see AM thanking the Flag Marshals at Sandown

Roxburgh certainly had a bee in his bonnet, when you consider the types of cars that Datsun/Nissan eventually ended up competing with

Freon gas! Yikes :-) ]

Mick, would you please refrain from correcting - or doubting - everyone...that's someone else's job. ;)

I think that thread has been changed to a discussion on wings now. Only the EH S4 thread is immune from going OT.

Reputedly they were cheating even then with Datsuns. Both 210 and 510! Which were both imported 'specials'

How nothing has changed!

John Ellis is still playing with Valiants, locally and I have never met him!

By 70 The Minis were class competitors only. Playing with 1200 Dattos! Who did win, can anyone remember. Very different cars.

Leo did make a lot of sense didnt he, as did Moff too.

A friend of mine owns the old Datsun 1200 coupe that Bill Evans drove at Bathurst.

When racing it as a 'Club Car', at one point someone decided that these cars should have back seats. So he went to a wrecker and bought one. It fell straight through the gap into the boot. Seems the body shell is wider than the one the seat came from. The one at the wrecker must have been a special, narrow-track version.

IIRC this segment was on Vol 2 of Classic Australian Touring Car Races DVD. Been a while since I've seen it though.

If you hunt I believe all the clips are on you tube. I put this one up because it should interest many here, and not just the Aussies either.

Some might not notice (though Bruce does)...

But there's four between McPhillamy and Forrest's Elbow.

If there's only four between McPhillamy and Forrest's you aren't going fast enough.
There's three corners in the Dipper.

There's actually seven between McPhillamy and Forrest's Elbow...

I wasn't being specific there.

As I said...

0315mtpanoramaesses.jpg

...seven corners between McPhillamy Park and Forrest's Elbow. No need for erroneous maps.

And as for the improper understanding of 'Skyline', this is obviously a non-enthusiast's view as they are thinking the 'skyline' is the line of the circuit along the rim of the hill as viewed from the bottom of the mountain. They aren't thinking of it as being a 'skyline' as approached on the circuit.
