Here is a link to the new f1 website - http://beta.formula1...website/en.html. It does look rather good I think, but unsurprisingly a large amount of the content will be behind a paywall. Still £20 a year is not too bad

Glad it's beta because it's not buttery smooth. Found a bug already, try to scroll the flags/calendar horizontally, jitters like mad.

If you click on "your time" next to the rolex clock it converts them all to your time. Although some of the session times are incorrect at the moment.

works ok on my Mac, a bit jittery and clunky (but then its a beta)

Am a tad impressed to be honest (although not too happy about the 20 quid paywall)

Using my Nexus 4. Albeit not on Lollipop cos I'm lazy.

It looks rather promising, they've revamped the app, too, judging by screenshots.

Looks like they're finally putting up race videos, albeit for paying customers only.

I only got a brief look at the paywall features, as the site appears to been made inaccessible again.

Bernie: "Oh well you put that bloody new website up then."

5 minutes later

"You see, no one is on it, no one want video of F1 at the internet. Close it down!"

Much of the content will behind a paywall? Oh, what a bloody surprise!

Seriously, do these idiots not realise that you won't increase interest for the sport at all by making you pay to access stuff that used to be free?

That seems to be F1's grand plan at the moment. Get as much money out of the fans before the sport crashes and dies.

If much more things will be available than till now then it's ok for me, worse if most of the free features will be unavailable and not too much added :)

The features list mentioned live radio streams and highlight videos, but no live video streams, alas.

I would pay for that, but only if they get Michael Waltrip with Kenny Wallace in the booth with Kyle Petty doing pit reporting. Eddie Jordan can do tech analysis.

it's basically the F1 app but now on the website. everything has been collected under one banner, but if you had the app last year, it's just the same. the price seems to be £20 per year or £2 per month.

Can't imagine they'd be making much if any money by getting a few thousand people to pay £20 a year for live timing.

You pay the £20 annual subscription and you get full access to all content on any devices, so including Android/IOS devices.

Are you sure..?

Sounds WAY TOO straight forward for FOM.

I wonder if it's cheaper in US$?

So let me understand this

I pay £20 annual subscription and if I have an iPad  & samsung phone I can download the F1 app on both devices and I will have access to all features on the apps including live FP1, FP2 timings and race day (maybe by using my sign in details)

hmmm...Interesting

So, 20 quid beta, for limited content and non reliable site with no live feed. How much are they going to try to charge when they have go their **** together and have something that people are prepared to pay for ? I'm guessing 250 quid for live stream races, extra 50 quid for live timing and limited gps, and possibly another hundred for the chance to watch the historical races that you want to. (Although I suspect that would be limited to a certain number per month.)

Is my guess close ? If I'm vaguely right, is this going to be good value for money ? Will you consider paying it ?

P.S. I would definitely pay a certain amount of money for an official, good quality stream. (The option of no commentary would be great.) If Bernie was not a thousand year old golem, then he might be able to correctly ascertain or negotiate the maximum amount of money that I would pay, and sort it.

(Actually, maybe we need a new Bernie.)

Re Live Timing: there was mention of free lap times and positions. In paid version they had something like driver power rankings, with stats of using throttle, brake, gear changes etc..

Also free users are supposed to be able to see "historic highlights" whatever that means (I'm telling from the memory, only the stuff that I read). No audio for free users, radio commentary for pay users (there were two asterisks there, not explained though - one was about English commentary and the second one was about region-specific language commentary).

Free users will get text commentary + social media feed as well IIRC.

The pricing depends on your country from what I saw.

Obviously there was more exclusive stuff such as interviews, reviews and what not, but I don't really care about those things that much.

I understand they can't stream live races, but the fact that there is still NO way to buy archival races (be it 1981-2014, I can understand if they don't have pre-1981 stuff) is kinda putting off for me.

Still, it's some progress so I guess we should be happy.

The Beta was only up for around 2 hours yesterday evening. I assume it will not be up again until the proper website is available
