"Ex-Caterham Formula 1 test driver Robin Frijns could make a switch to sportscar racing this season with the WRT Audi team in the Blancpain GT Series. Frijns, who won the Formula Renault 3.5 title in 2012, will try one of WRT's fleet of Audi R8 LMS ultras over the course of the two-day official Blancpain Endurance Series test at Paul Ricard on Wednesday and Thursday. The 23-year-old Dutchman will be joined at WRT by former Peugeot LMP1 reserve driver Jean-Karl Vernay over the course of the test."

Well, at least he'll get paid there...

Could do a lot worse. WRT are easily one of the top 20 teams in the world at the moment.

So that's his F1 dream done then?

Jean-Karl Vernay! 2011's Robin Frijns.

Good luck to both of them. GT3 with Audi is a good place to be. Didn't Grosjean do a year of GT racing during his post-2009 gap year?

Yes, he raced in the GT1 chamoionship.  But more to the point, he raced in Auto GP and won the championship, then GP2 Asia (champion) and GP2 proper (champion) and it was those single seater series that kept him in view.  For Frijns, this is the end, he will not be heard of again, at least not in F1 circles.  Oh well, it has happened to many before and will happen to many more in the future.

Good luck to him. At least he has a drive. And driving for WRT-Audi is not something to be ashames of. He could build on a carreer in GT and endurance like Fassler and Hartley. Hope the best for him.

He deserves to get paid to drive racing cars. Have at it Robin.

Didn't see this coming but a paid drive that may open the doors for a graduation to LMP1 in the coming years so long as Audi remain in that category, isn't a bad career move at all.
