This thread is a joke, are you actually arguing over who has 'won' qualifying and the race  - really what on earth is the point. ):

(I'm not usually so rude and I don't want to insult anyone but come on, there are way more issues than comparing the drivers - if the car runs reliably then I guess it might be more meaningful if that is your interest in the McLaren team-mates and I will make no comment on it but at the moment there is no comparison).

Anyway terrible luck for Kevin, problems in qualifying and unable to even start the race  - that's definitely 1 engine gone already, but 4 engines was never going to be enough for this season :( lets hope engine number 2 has some fixes to make it more reliable.

Good to see Jenson get to the end, hopefully that will provide lots of data to improve both the car and power unit. Jenson did well to defend against Perez for so long considering - a nice little highlight

Hoping to see Fernando back in the next race - it will be interesting if he finds any improvements made over the final test and first race (not that we will likely find out but should hopefully provide good feedback)

I don't think that anyone is doing that? Obviously there is not much to debate sadly  :well: I think it is fine to have a driver related thread though, even if it is going to be a short one.

Many of these post have no relevance in the thread dedicated to the car itself, so I honestly don't see anything wrong with it.

Oh yes - I'm all for a driver related thread :)
I love discussing how the drivers have got on - what they have done well, or even mistakes if they have made them.
(I don't like scoring the drivers - the points kind of do that - I know the points don't always tell the full story but then neither does giving the race to one of them as they can both have amazing races but circumstances can play out differently. I get some people like to do that and that's fine - I will just keep out those discussions but this weekend is totally meaningless to do it for McLaren.

Sorry - I think I'm just a bit grumpy after 3 nights with less than 3 hours sleep

No need for the faux-outrage as I stated the condition "if an engine had to go" quite clearly. Honda ideally needed both cars to finish but of the two drivers that raced, Magnussen needed the mileage the most. That he didn't even make the start must be soul-crushing for him.

Not sure you quite understand what faux-outrage means. It was just a rolleyes at an ill judged comment, nothing more.

Magnussen needed the mileage the most??

is maclarens strategy now simply about keeping drivers happy?

or giving your main driver the chance to add to what precious few miles he's done so far

21 miles was the longest stint button had done and you don't think he needed the mileage most?

button will be driving all season and any data is highly valuable

magnussen driving someone elses car is hardly a priority

You are misreading my post - I was speaking in the hypothetical. You know, total fantasyland. I'm not making a serious comment on "McLaren's strategy" but a general remark about how young/test drivers get no mileage. Magnussen was presented with a unique opportunity and it was taken away in the most ungainly way. Take it easy, this isn't a thread for the long haul.

For all anyone knows - the problem with the engine was actually waiting to happen as a result of the shunt he had and the rebuild......
