This could be the case in Melbourne this weekend. But did it ever happen in the past?

I heard that Philippe Adams wanted to confiscate some Jordan equipment for Belgia 1991, but Ecclestone paid the open bills.

I also heard that there were some team principals in the early 90s who was arrested in the f1 paddock or something like this...

Andrea Sassetti of Andrea Moda (in)fame was arrested at the Belgian GP in 1992, the team vanished a race later.

In other series, I remember in 2013 ADESS taking Colin Kolles' Kodewa organization to court for late bills prior to the Le Mans 24h race, the cars and pit equipment were impounded after scrutineering and were only released late on Wednesday, after practice had started for the race.

BAR Honda missed Friday practice at the French GP 2003 because of legal action.

"BAR cars impounded in cash row
More trouble for the team in France

T
he BAR-Honda Formula One team are facing a desperate battle to race in Sunday's French Grand Prix after a court ordered both their cars to be impounded here on Thursday.

It is understood that the team is being pursued for three million dollars, a debt allegedly dating back five years.

After a local court backed the company's claim, a bailiff backed by five police officers arrived at the circuit. It was then decided to impound the cars of Jacques Villeneuve and Jenson Button.

The machines were moved back from the BAR garage to the team's lorries and the doors of the transporters were sealed on the court's orders. A ruling on whether BAR can take part in Sunday's race is due to be handed down by the court on Friday.

Didn't the 07 spy gate / sabotage scandal have police in the paddock at some point?

As did Minardi at the same race in 1995, due to the legal tug-of-war taking place over which team had rights to use the Mugen-Honda engine.

Loris Kessel at the German GP 1976 basically impounded the RAM Brabham team for not giving him enough drives.  I think John Macdonald was arrested for a while.  One upshot of this was that Rolf Stommelen, contracted to them for the race, ended up in a third works Brabham, which they numbered 77 with the spare decals - and he scored the last point of his career.

Before the start of the 2000 Australian GP there was a policeman stationed beside both Alesi and Heidfeld as they were sitting in the car.

We all thought there was some threat against the Prost team.

Turns out that the drivers were not allowed to start the engine until Peugeot was finally paid.

The money must have arrived just before the installation lap, and the police left.

Peugeot got another injunction for another race during that year where the same thing happened.

Given that it was an awful and unreliable engine, nobody blamed Prost for not wanting to pay.

Colin Chapman was so concerned that the police might arrest him and impound his cars that Gold Leaf Team Lotus didn't take part in the 1971 Italian GP. Instead the unloved Lotus 56B turbine car was entered by "World Wide Racing", painted gold and black, with no sponsor logos and Emerson Fittipaldi wore a plain white race suit. The background was the death of Jochen Rindt the previous year and the requirement under the Italian Legal Code for someone to be held responsible.

That was more Caterham 2014 if I'm not totally wrong. Shannon-thingy bought the team, but money never showed up.

Colin Chapman was  put in jail for a night after beating a Dutch police officer on the grid at the 1965 Dutch GP when he wanted to have a last look at Clark's car - which was refused by the policeman.

It lead to questions in the Dutch parliament, where the Dutch minister for Justice said that one of the reasons to lock him up was that he was a foreigner who might try to escape law enforcement: http://resourcessgd....965_0000847.pdf

There was a witness at the court case who even made a scale model of the situation at the grid: http://www.anp-archi...l/page/31055/nl

They ran out of money and the engine supply was pulled.

And then of course was the 1970 Spanish GP. 22 entries for 16 places on the grid - but until the last moment there were discussions about those 16, especially when one or two of them could well be non-starters. Hopeful mechanics of DNQ drivers shoved their cars towards the grid - which lead to an uprecedented charge of the Guardia Civil (of the Franco era kind) on the grid and pits area minutes before start, beating up both drivers and mechanics.

See e.g.post #8 in http://forums.autosp...970-spanish-gp/ "There was much punching, yelling, screaming, and lots of pushing and shoving as police dragged drivers from their cars and team members shoved them back into the cars."
