Well with a limited budget it seems manor has done the imposable and revived  a team with about $60 million budget were as Honda as had millions to throw at McLaren and have to de tune there engines just to run as they have screwed up some where down the line

I can see manor out qualifying McLaren in Malaysia with a old 14 engine when McLaren have new top of the range spec that seems to be garbage and nearly 5 seconds of the pace

Mad as my post seem i can really see it happening has McLaren have no reliability

Maybe you should've waited until they actually get their engines fire up and cars out on track before making this thread?

Merhi said the other day that they are like 2.5-3 seconds off McLaren at the moment (It´s the 2014 car so they more or less know its speed). So no.

Yep the cars have moved forward a lot compared to last year as one would expect in only the 2nd year of brand new regulations.  Based on what we've seen in testing and Melbourne even the "midfield" teams like Force India, STR, Lotus, etc are equally fast if not faster than Mercedes was in 2014.  The problem for them is that Mercedes is A LOT faster than they were in 2014.

I'd also expect a lot more development potential from Mclaren as the season progresses because A) They have a huge amount of resources compared to Manor and B) They are starting with a brand new PU and car that has barely even done any laps.  Finishing the race in Melbourne was actually an improvement over where they were in testing.

Wowsers! I wonder how long before the have the 2015 chassis ready. I can't help but imagine, they could be grabbing some valuable points with the new Ferrari PU upgrades.

No chance. Can't see Mclaren Honda have a 1999 BAR esque season.

Is the OP talking about one race, or the entire season?

There is a chance that the McLaren-Honda might still be very slow this weekend.

Over the entire season, no chance at all.

McClaren will be poor again this weekend,  but have no doubt they will be much stronger as each race goes by. I doubt they will win a GP this season, but they will "climb the ladder" so to speak.

Honda and McLaren will make big strides over the season. Well, they have to! But Manor will be behind them anyway. Getting a car to the finish in Sepang this weekend would be a great result for Manor.

Manor was resurrected so that its investors could take a bite at the prize money :rotfl: .

The team will show up at GPs to meet its obligation, but won't attempt to qualify or race  .

Expect Manor to make up all sorts of excuses in Malaysia, not to send their cars out.  The prize money they're targeting is worth much more than the freight costs they have to bear themselves.

Manor car is not fast but is basically last year's car so it's a proven car. Also run Ferrari engine that's more than proven and can be pushed hard. So they can beat Mclaren for sure, especially if they are running with 2015 spec Ferrari engine.

If they're running 2014 spec PU, the answer would probably be no.
If they're running 2015 spec PU, then yes.
This is purely about the car speed, not reliability. If we account for reliability, then it would likely be no. Even as proven as it is, the fact is they haven't run the car for a relatively long time.

I assume the 2-3 seconds behind comment was made when the manor was still on stands?

Once fired up and rolling should be right there pushing Honda.

Why would anyone think that? McLarens pace was actually quite strong.

Marussia will be running an outdated PU and a car put together at the last minute

I reckon decent chance Manor won't even make 107% rule

Mclaren will comfortably be faster imo

Absolutely, positively not. Sepang FP1 is in effect a shake down. They have no data on the '15 rubber. More pertinent is what will be the gap to McLaren.

You did seemingly. Their cornering speed was one of the fastest on the grid, yes, the PU wasn't running properly and that affected both their pace and fuel economy, but from what we saw of the baseline pace of the car it was actually very strong if they can get the engine operational. That will come with time.

Seems you missed the 2/3 seconds a lap off the pace lap time.

Quick indeed.

You seem to be trying to imply thats the cars peak pace. When you have the ICE and particularly the ERS turned right down to merely run, of course yes, the car will be lacking in ultimate power and ultimate pace. But the potential of the car was quick, that it was measuring quicker apex speeds than both Ferraris when it had basically no pre season development is a fantastic sign.

They haven't done anything yet. Turned up, but not turned a wheel so to speak.

It's all hypothetical until a car actualy hits the track.

The only impossible thing achieved is this nonesense analysis trying to come across as a factual statement.

Maybe, but back then £45million was the equivalent of what, £125m+ today?

The same as Freddos were 10p, and today 20p.
