Could have been worse, It could have been two Englishmen, one claiming to be the fittest and the other challenging him to prove it, whilst a bewildered Scotsman thinks wtf!.

At least Rosberg isn't backing out

But perhaps he should, he's not so good at this sort of thing, remember Spa last year.

I think it started with a small attempt at mind games.

How exactly is this story (that Rosberg has invited Vettel to Mercedes' debrief) related to smart phones and social media?

I guess, Rosberg could have simply 1.) Shut-up or 2.) Called Vettel on a land line instead of using his twitter account. What do you think?

Inspired by this, McLaren are planning to open up their accident debrief to all the other teams...not!

I think that this happened in the official press conference after the race. The fact that Rosberg chose to play it out by inviting Vettel to the debrief has nothing to do with Twitter or whatever. Seb wouldn't have been less invited if Rosberg had called him on a land line or used smoke signals.

Poor LH ..... stuck in a team with a guy who openly admits that as a "racing driver" he is happy when his team mate DNFs.

As opposed to all the others who don't admit it but think it anyway (or say the opposite but think it anyway)... :p

Sure. Though it would not have had the same social media impact.

He's not actually invited is he? It's an example of social media extending a 'joke', that wouldn't have really worked with a private phone call now would it?

He isn't? As Rosberg has posted this on Twitter and Facebook, I strongly suspect he is. It most likely wont be a proper debrief of course, but making such a fuss about it as Nico has done, it makes it kind of hard for him to refuse Seb if he shows up for the debrief (with tens of photographers on his tail).

Lighten up.

If you have seen any of my other posts on this forum, you'll generally see that there was no need for your little comment. I stand by what I said though. Nico is making a dick of himself more and more these days and is quite clearly going to be schooled by Hamilton even more than last season. I suggest he concentrates on the job at hand rather than these silly distractions.

Sometimes, championships are won that way (1987).

What if... Bernie asked them to have a bit of a go in the press conference, to distract from the Sauber fiasco??

I thought it was all harmless if amusingly awkward. Reminded me of George Costanza belatedly and unsuccessfully hitting back with  'Yeah? well, the jerk store called and they're running out of YOU!' And, as with George, eh, probably better to have stopped digging once in the hole. Don't mess with Vettel, I guess.

I also enjoyed Lewis's expression as it all unfolded 'Ha!' the expression seemed to say. 'For once it's all kicking off about nothing and it doesn't involve ME!'

Rosbergs problem is that he's too honest, too nice, too upfront. I thought last years shennanigans with Hamilton may have made him more combative from the off but it doesn't look like it.

I just think Nico should keep a low profile and get on the job of trying to do more than just eat Lewis' dust.

He's never going to one up someone as media savvy as Seb. In fact Seb is so media savvy that he doesn't even do social media.

Its just friendly banter, and I personally like to see such sort of stuff...It does appear that Rosberg got overtly defensive after the first jibe, and while he was trying hard to forcing a smile and trying to appear amused, he probably wasn't.

I agree with Boing....he's probably not cut out for the political correctness demands of modern day PR...He's too transparent..The whole tussle last year at Spa was suggestive of that as well..

I highly doubt Vettel even thinks about such stuff before media events/press conferences..To me he's always appeared to be this very ''sure of himself'' individual who's not overtly bothered by what the social circus around him perceive him as..Ive never seen him make a conscious effort to appear ''likable''..He has a narcissistic bent ofcourse but then thats probably why he's here where he is right now.

I haven't seen the part of the press conference posted where Nico initially invites Seb to the Mercedes garage, apologies if it has already been posted and I missed it.

I don't share his excessive dislike of Vettel. But I think you are being a tad harsh there.

He is a decent poster (as are yourself)

Hamilton will be loving this.

I hope Vettel does a Valentino Rossi and makes a spectacle out of it. Shows up with like 50 engineers in lab coats.

F1 drivers just used to get angry and try to punch each other.

These days they have catty fights in press conferences while trying to manage PR.  Yeah sometimes it might be joking but with a lot of these guys, there's a fine line between joking and being passive aggressive.  From what I've read here, this one doesn't seem so bad but the Trulli vs Sutil one a few years back was............................

I can't even bring myself to watch or think about this one.. and it looks like there is too much over analysis as it is.  Ignorance is bliss.

So, Vettel has declined Rosberg's invitation:

"I think when I was joking with Nico in the press conference the deal was the invite was for all the paddock, now it seems the invite has shrunk to just me."

"Initially I think it was called off by Niki and Toto, now they've told yes so I think they are using it now as a bit more of a PR thing rather than a proper invite so the answer is no."

Trulli v Sutil must be perhaps the only one from recent era, which is a bit reminiscent of Piquet v Salazar? A driver is so angry he wants to hit another. I haven't followed the off-track antics closely, but I can't remember anything else recently.

Not necessarily.

Just to act like men and not like girly teenagers having a cat fight.  Not so much these two, as this was quite harmless but all drivers in their interactions with each other.  How can the fanboys justify their obsessions when they cheerlead for horse jockey sized men who act like girly catty teenagers, when something goes wrong?

Anyways I finally watched this one was in the right mood, and it was quite harmless and funny, just a little awkward.  The fact that it's 4 pages shows how little we all have to talk about in terms of positive or exciting things in the sport at the moment.

On a similar note, just watched a video with Nico talking about how he uses a tampon/maxipad in his helmet to stop the sweat from his forehead going into his eyes.  Not helping my point Nico.. *facepalm*

Aaaw! Could have been funny with Vettel going into the Mercedes paddock, and SkyF1 having a laugh about it. Damnit!  :p
