It's the middle of March, and once again, American sports car racing attempts to avenge the death of a Nissan LMP by tackling the broken concrete runways of Sebring, Florida for the 12 hours / 6 hours of racing + 6 hours of follow the pace car or Sebring.  46 combatants enter, few will survive, and the winning team will be drinking the night away (not the car of course!)

Anyway, some details:

Race starts at 10:40 Eastern Daylight Time, or 15:40 Greenwich Mountain Time ( Please correct me if I'm wrong)

TV coverage is provided by Fox Sports 1 and 2 in the States, and online at IMSA.com everywhere else.  No subscription or Nigerian steaming required.

If you're attending, sunblock, hats, beer, and bikinis are recommend, but not required.  Fireworks will be exploding at the end of the race.  Also if IMSA for some reason screws up the race like last year, please vent all frustration over the internet and at Kurt Bush, wherever he's at on a Saturday night.

Also, this is my first time doing an OP, so I apologize if someone came up with one, but I have to try at some point, otherwise, have at it away!

Great seeing a new member throwing down

I'll be at the pub on Sat night, commandeering the satellite, pissing off the Chelski fans, as usual.

Hoping for an LMP to win it but not holding my breath, would be nice to see ESM get the win they were denied last year.

I hope it's a good race, and far better than last years; which was ruined by some inept driving, and too many FCYs. And while we know the reasons why it isn't, this should be in the WEC.

Yep. Every session should be on there. Night practice starts in a few.

Are Ganassi entering just one car?

And Extreme Speed bringing just the ARX-03s?

Still a pretty weak driver lineup for the LMP2 teams (I don't envy Wilson having to carry John Pew). Good to see Pagenaud, Briscoe, Bourdais and Dixon are back, I expect them to be up front in P\GTLM.

Is the practice stream working for anyone? I'm just seeing a test color thing that says NASCAR 720P for some reason. Live timing is working, though.

Yes, just ARX-03s for ESM. The ARX-04s have evidently been put on hold indefinitely. Racer magazine might know more.

EDIT: And even though night isn't very fun to watch on TV, it's easily the coolest (pun intended) time to watch live. So hopped up right now, lol.

If the Nissan LMP can run, even as an exhibition entry, why can't Audis and Toyotas?

They can't. I guess the Nissan-killing reference is a nod to their shambolic and problem-filled test session at Sebring last week. No LMP1 cars in this race.

Spot on Victor   It's some kind of luck the Nissan GTR-LM Nismo is as fragile and delicate as the Delta Wing .

Taking today off. Wish I could post pictures here but my image-host of choice seems to be down for maintenance at the moment.

Krohn and Mike Shank look to be on top of things this weekend. One-lap pace is good but the DPs are always quicker in the race because they can get the tyres to work better faster. Should be good fun, though. ESM is going to be a long-shot; car looks ragged and off the pace everywhere. :well:

In GT, Corvette and Ferrari are looking pretty smooth, and the 911s in GTD look to be on it this weekend.

Another great day here. At some point we need to have a forum-gathering at this track, lol.

What, a Sebring thread and this hasn't been posted yet? Poor effort. :p

Pretty sure I saw less than half an hour's worth of green flag racing last year. Hoping for a much better race.

That would be the tits.

Stoked for the race tomorrow. I think I'll buy myself a nice bottle of German Gin. I'll get to see the first eight hours, 'til I have to hit the town.

Nice OP, Proto. You should post more.

Found on their website that the HPD ARX-04 had trouble, HPD didn't want to homologate it in its current state and that ESM bought two Ligiers for replacement, but will install HPD engines later in the year.

It's just hit me that the Sebring 12 Hours, live and in its entirety, will be on free-to-air TV in the UK. Forget F1 for a second, we are spoiled.

Anyway. Happy race morning, everyone! Mrs Risil is up in the Midlands shopping with her bridesmaids, so I'm here by myself with a four-pack of Guinness (yeah, I'm not very ambitious). I needed one for a beef stew and apparently it's more economical to buy in bulk?
