When people understand that the plural of chicken is "chicken".
Incorrect. The plural of 'chicken' is, indeed, 'chickens', in British English anyway.

If its spelled Mclarens and Ferraris, then plural of Williams is Williamses?
Not getting involved in this one.

I don't know how these arguments carry on.
Just google 'williams plural' and click on some links.

English language is weird. Why couldn't they make plural as chickens, teeths ......

McLaren-Mercedes took two full seasons to win, Red Bull four and the current incarnation of Mercedes three. Of course these are all different stories and cannot be compared directly, but if McLaren-Honda win in under one or two full seasons, it would be a remarkable achievement. The way that they've started suggests that this isn't really on the cards.
The problem with McLaren is that historically, they're serial under-achievers. Even with the fastest car, they struggle to win - just take 2012 during which they began and ended the season with the fastest car, yet finished a distant third in the championship. Even to win they've got to beat the well-oiled machines that are Red Bull and Mercedes. A championship is even less likely.
I can't disagree with any of this. It's part of the charm of supporting the team, though, I guess.

Hmm... Definitely not an F1 weekend.

2015. I don't think they'll be around for 2017..

I work in a Linguistics department at a University. Please give me some time off...I hear arguments about these issues all the time... Mercedes and Williams are already plural, whereas Lotus is singular, so it would be "The Mercedes, Williams and Lotuses all run on Mercedes' engines"... I think. I would ask at work, but someone would probably answer me, and life's too short.
Spain 2016, Alonso, btw.

Williams = 'Son of William'
Williamses = plural.
Ask at work.
Then ask about Mercedes.

Can you have a plural of the meat then?
No, you can't.

Wouldn't it be "Lotii"?
Posted 21 March 2015 - 10:31
Because their engine is only running in two cars, they are significantly disadvantaged in gathering data for developing the engine. Mercedes on the other than has 8 cars running their engines. With that in mind, the only way Mclaren can win is by luck which I believe will at the earliest be in 2016, and on merit possibly in 2017.
Posted 21 March 2015 - 10:44
Wouldn't it be "Lotii"?
Possibly Loti, never lotii...apparently.
Posted 21 March 2015 - 12:19
Let them focus on getting into the top ten first. I doubt they'll have a car to fight for wins for 2016 as well, so at the earliest at some point in 2017 if they're lucky.

The chassises of Reds Bulles will also try to compete against the chassises of Williamses, Mercedeses and of course Lotuses. The powers unites of Renaultes will power the cars of Reds Bulles and Toros Rossoses.

No, no. The chassi of Red Bulls... Williamses, Mercedi and Loti. Toro Rossoses was good, if Demis Roussi would be driving them and not being dead.

Hoping for a earlier victory for Alonso or Button.

The day Rosberg takes out Hamilton at the start, while Kimmi and Vettel break their wings on the debris, while Kvyat spins and is collected by Ricciardo, the Saubers and Torro Rosso's break their wheels off taking avoiding action, the boys at Force India cannot get the wheelnuts back on and a torrential downpour takes out anything that is left but two McLaren Honda's. They'd have to pull an Olivier Panis. So, after 2017 and probably never. Or next race. Whatever. Not going to bet on a win for them anytime soon.
Posted 21 March 2015 - 16:51
Sooo....chickenen?
Up and coming Finnish talent. Not even he could win in this car.

Mercedes is not a plural it is singular
Mercedes is a spanish female name. Gottlieb Daimler one of the founders of Mercedes-Benz had a daughter whose name was Mercedes. One daughter. Therefore it is singular.
Its just a name ending with "s" nothing to do with plural. Just like Remedios, Melquiades and plenty of other spanish names.
The only mystery is why would a german gave his daughter a spanish name.
Although a lucky mistery. For we could have end up with Ulrike or Heidi leading the world constructors championship at the moment.

It's a name, which is the plural of "merced". A bit like calling your daughter "Graces" instead of "Grace".
So it's singular and plural at the same time.
Isn't there a race this weekend?

Sorry for OT. Mercedes Jellinek was the daughter of Emil Jellinek (who suggested the name to Daimler) and Rachel Goggmann Cenrobert. I think the mother was of spanish origins hence the spanish Mercedes Ramona Jellinek.
I take Mercedes anyday over Heidi (for as much as i love the name!!!) lol.

Story book stuff above, but can't start talking about McLaren and Honda resurgence until it happens and it will. See stats below and you will see where McLaren and Honda fit into the Formula 1 scene. Remember Mercedes, until recently, did not have a really successful past. New developments by that engine manufacturer and race team are phenominal over the past several years. Several years in the sense that developing and refining the car and the engine has taken several years, last year shows the results as well as this year. So, if McLaren and Honda duplicate this growth or surpass in a similar timeline that will be a successful return to prominence. A place that each has held and will deserve if all of the hard work and development produce results.
Formula 1 win total by team entry - Ferrari 221, McLaren 182, Williams 114, Lotus 79, Red Bull 50, Renault & Brabham 35, Mercedes 30
Formula 1 win by power unit - Ferrari 217, Ford 176, Renault 168, Mercedes 116, Honda 72
Formula 1 win by constructor country - British 520, Italian 242, French 53, Austria 50, Germany 32
These stats just show that McLaren have a history of winning just as Mercedes had a history many years previous and with their (Mercedes) commitment, they are now on the top of the mountain. McLaren with Honda power can attain the same status, give them a little time, as everyone gave Mercedes and then we will see spirited competition. And of course this is not to keep Ferrari out of the mix, they never stay down and out very long. They will be a pleasant surprise this year...............and I think we will all be surprised and pleased (McLaren fans anyway) with their performance and race results by year end. Enjoy the season everyone, it has just begun.

They might have a chance if they can get both cars to the grid without one blowing up and be within .5 secs of the leader instead of 5 secs. Still work to do.
