Inspired of topic "Hybrid technology in F1 - yay or nay?" I thought about future look of F1 cars. May be in 2100 it will look like in Star Wars.

Let's imagine how will Formula 1 look like in 10/50/100 years. And what cutting edge technologies will be implemented?

They'll look exactly the same if the Autosport users have their way.

Considering how did they look like last year, I shudder to think, what might come out in the future with some new aero/bodywork regulations...

If that was the case, we would end up with something like this:

Well, it will either be a death race 2000 clone to appeal to the jaded and easily distracted/bored fans of 2020+ or a version of Nelson Piquet's Grand Prix evolution game...

Neither really appeals tbh.

In the 1960s they thought F1 engines of the future would be jet powered.......yet that never happened.

I think we'll retain an internal combustion engine but with extra electric/hydrid parts.

Fraid the V10 days are gone guys.

Based on the Tesla progress, formula E might be the new F1 in about 10 years.

I like this idea, but it's unusual because of no driver in cockpit. I think it will be the separate series, Formula Google for instance.

Seriously, I can see an autonomous vehicle series appearing in the not too distant future.

The ED Torq is the first driverless race car, could compete in Le Mans before 2025...

The minute you remove the human interest, you remove all the interest. Who would p*ss their life away watching AI vs AI? What possible entertainment value is there in that? If that were to be the 'future', thank **** I'm not 'young' anymore!

Some form of screwed up augmented humans probably, with Bernie v3 leading the pack after being thawed from cryogenic deep sleep.

True, but I still think the manufacturers would be interested in competing against one another to show off how good they were.

In all honesty, I would expect there the term 'open-wheel' to become fairly redundant in top level racing a 'single seater' would be the favoured term. I just see that with the shift in philosophy towards efficiency it won't take too long for someone to think that having a pair of wheels sticking out isn't really helping and start to close them in. It already seems to be heading that way in IndyCar and Formula E.

There will be no F1 in the future.

Not aslong as the teams have their heads up their own arses.

They way things are going, within the next  2-3 years the field will be without Sauber, Force India, Lotus and Manor.

It will be run by sensible people, with an open engine formula and not much useless aero design.

I think there'll be more other-worldly than they are now even as the hybrid  (or even fully electric) power they'll be using becomes more widely seen on the road. Who knows, in fifty years the only place we'll be able to see a car controlled by a driver might be on a racetrack.

Finally, the elitist agenda will be complete.

Back to your public transport, pleb.

Probably very similar to what they look like now, just uglier and stupider.

They ought to say 3 wheels.  With two cars in a team one weekend one driver has to use the car with 2 at the front, 1 at the back, the next GP they swap around and he has to drive 1 at the front, 2 at the back.
