In no particular order, here are some of the more valuable pieces of news gleaned since the press embargo was lifted:

  • Online practice sessions added
  • Multiple reports that gamepads are no longer faster than steering wheels
  • Much improved handling/physics/feedback, and Team VVV have even stated it leans toward a simulation more than an arcade racer
  • Online races are still limited to 16 human players (really? You couldn’t add 4 more cars?)
  • Full practice sessions are back in career mode
  • New manual starting procedure where it’s possible to jump start
  • Pro mode includes full practice sessions, no assists, cockpit view, and no HUD elements
  • Manor won’t be in the 2015 content at launch but will be added soon afterward as DLC
  • The damage model has been reworked and can now be set to super sensitive
  • Pit stops are still automatic
  • Bianchi will be in the 2014 content if Manor and his family approve
  • June 12th release date (moogleslam: possibly 9th or 16th in North America which traditionally has a Tuesday release?)
  • Updates throughout the year to match real world performance
  • PS4 will be 1080p and 60fps
  • Xbox ONE will be 900p and 60fps
  • Races are commentated by David Croft & Anthony Davidson (presumably, this can be turned off)
  • Improvements in AI including being faster through turn 1, and generally more competitive and unpredictable
  • Online “Hopper system” (possible bad translation), where you can search for a specific online race, and if there isn’t one, you can go do something else in the game, and be notified when there’s a match available

Would it be wiser to get this on PS4 rather than Xbox one?

Yes, the PS4 version is I believe 1080p 60fps the XBox 900p 60fps

Any sort of reference that starts with "this game LOOKS incredible"  is always a bad one.

This game and all its forebears is just a patched up version of the original

If you want to give Codies 30 or 40 quid for a patch then off you go.

I played 2013 and it was very good, but the nex version was simply a patch. Not worthy of my money sorry.

2013 was awful as well as 2011 and 2014. 2012 was the best CM F1 game. 2010 was also good.

Somehow I doubt any team can build an entire game from the ground up in less than a year!

Actually they're working on this since 2013. They planned to release it last year for Current Gen but it was delayed. That's why we got this half-baked F1 2014 ****.

Anyway I still doubt it will be good. It will have no career mode, that's just ridiculous.

It's rumored since the announcement was made and career mode not mentioned. Knowing CM's behavior regarding not answering unpleasant questions it's pretty obvious there won't be a career mode.

That would very stupid to have no career mode, just about every sports game has one.

Actually, that would be a deal breaker for me because that is all I played in the other F1 games.

Okai, what's the point then? After so many years with career modes in sport games, it's kinda boring to drive in the same season over and over again.

You might be overestimating the number of people who play even one season to completion.

The Steam achievements for F1 2014 show that no more than 53.2% of players on that platform complete at least one race in Career Mode, and only 11.7% of players complete a full season.

2014 was an awful game though. I'm pretty sure career mode of 2010 was played a lot more especially because of the "Be the Driver, live the Life" thing.

Career mode was boring. You just drove for five seasons against the same drivers in the same teams every year.

Creating your own driver and moving up the ranks through the teams was fun though. Why on earth would they take that out? Such a stupid move IMO, literally every other sports game I have owned has had this.

Perhaps, though unfortunately F1 2010 and F1 2011 don't have achievements that make it easy to get an idea of how often its career mode was played.

F1 2012 doesn't seem to record merely finishing a career season, but lists 14,7% of Steam players as having won the driver's championship in Career.

The achievements for F1 2013 generally show low completion-percentages, and lists a mere 3,6% of Steam players as having won the driver's championship in Career.

I always enjoyed these games, and the old Grad Prix games for doing practice laps alone, single races or multiplayer race, not really doing a full season or getting achievements

This game is brand new from the ground up

It takes years to develop games from scratch. The fact they can pump out a new version every 12 months tells us all we need to know.

I'll wait before judging the game because so far we've not seen any gameplay.. which is odd with just over a month to go till launch. You'd think they'd want to show off their next gen graphics engine as much as possible but perhaps they're shy about going up against Project Cars at the moment... which let's face it will blow the F1 series out of the water in terms of a racing game out this year. The only reason you'd pick up F1 2015 is for the F1 licensing they have to allow you to drive the actual teams/drivers.

I do chuckle at some of the features too. Driving with a controller is as good as a wheel? Really?!? And that's supposed to indicate a more simulation based style handling engine?!

Sadly for Codies there is a pretty decent racing game out a month before F1 2015.

I have 2010,2011,2012 and 2014 and the one thing I notice with 14 is that the suspension is much stiffer and the cars less bouncy than previous games. When I go back and play previous games it's like driving an MPV compared to 2014 so in that respect 2014 is much better. One aspect I don't like with 14 is the traction control, which is stupidly noisy and makes the car sound like it's going slow when it's not. I play with keyboard and not a wheel I'm afraid so I need to use TC as my PC is a laptop. No room for a wheel.

I must say I've had some fun races on 2014, only the other night I was 2nd in a Ferrari and Rosberg was 1st and I was catching him about 1 sec per lap. He was 8 secs ahead. I didn't win before the race ended but I got very close, It felt like a Raikkonen moment and I was trying to do quali lap after quali lap to catch up. My tyres went off in the end though.

I see people here saying 14 was awful, but is it really worse than 13? I found the classic cars and tracks in 13 a bit of a tacky add-on and not very well implemented.

I know, but JW on the McLaren isn't that distinctive, so you wouldn't miss it. The Martini stripes are distinctive to Williams' livery.

It's still alcohol sponsorship tho. And according to a report I read yesterday if the EU get their way Williams will be changing their livery at some point. They want all alcohol sponsorship out of F1.

If you're on PC, there'll be enough mods to get the Martini-logo on the Williams and the JW-logo on the McLaren.

Just as in 2014:

Firstly, I resolved to be very careful before I buy any codemasters product after my experience with the F1 series. Ive never enjoyed any of them, bugs such as canned spins, opposition that does not pit....  I had enough of it. I wouldnt hold out any hope at all of this game being any good. Codemasters never got F1 in my opinion.

Okai, what's the point then? After so many years with career modes in sport games, it's kinda boring to drive in the same season over and over again.

But thats what codemasters career mode is? The same season repeated over and over again? What changes other than the team you drive for? The competative order does not change, the race order does not change, drivers do not change teams. Its the same thing.

It is still a career mode.
For some reason, no racing games have managed to have a license where the teams can change (Or, NASCAR 06 did have some minor, scripted changes after one season). But it is still a career mode. Same goes for the Moto GP 15 game, it is the same season over and over again, but you create your own driver, start out in the lower category and work up to the top.

There is a difference between being forced to be an IRL driver, and free choice of cars, than to "make yourself" and start from the bottom.

But to be fair, it would've been a good thing if the FIA/CVC etc. managed to give a GP3, GP2, F1 license to a dev.

Oh, and bring back a proper manager game!

2010 vs 2011 vs 2014 vs 2015 wet Singapore:

F1 2014 on the PS3 looks surprisingly unimpressive compared to the others. Whatever my quibbles about the highly reflective cars that Codemasters insists are the way to go, it's still quite impressive how far this whole genre has come graphically.

I quite enjoyed F1 2012 for the sale price I paid, and figured I'd skip 2014 to get both Mexico and Russia in one go with the new game once it goes on sale. It'll no doubt be good fun for what it is, and thumbs up to Codemasters for getting this together before the summer break rather than late September.

Bought the steam version, refunded within 2 hours.

If you're a regular sim goer with the likes of iRacing, Assetto Corsa and rFactor you're going to be dissapointed.

I think this game would be really good on a console with a gamepad but the graphics and handing were just so poor I couldn't play it.

Got it on PS4 today. Very unimpressed. My last F1 game was 2011, and that put me off F1 games for a few years. Honestly what is the point in Pro Season mode. All it is championship season mode with all the difficult settings set on max. Something you could do by yourself with the settings in championship season mode if you wished to do so. Such a waste of a mode of what could of been used for a decent career mode. Graphics aren't even that impressive either.

If only Sony never lost the F1 licence. Says a lot when CM's best F1 game was their first in 2010.

Project Cars vs F1 2015:

They're pretty matched but I think the "filter" on F1 2015 let's it down somewhat. It's a sort of cream colour which reduces the realistic feeling that Project Cars has. Project Cars also seems to have some more detail on the buildings but that may just be a different approach from the modellers rather than an engine issue.

Yeah, Codemasters have always had that movielike 'sand' filter as I call it instead of realistic colours.

Downloaded PS4 version earlier and done the first two races on standard season mode. Enjoying it so far, much, much better than 14. You really have to be careful with the throttle, even with TC on medium, or you'll spin. P9 in Australia, won in Malaysia with Kimi  :smoking:
