In 1991 a Jaguar Intercontinental Challenge featuring identical XJR15 cars was held as a support race for the following three F1 races:

Monte Carlo GP - Monaco - 11 May

British GP - Silverstone - 14 July

Belgian GP - Spa - 25 August

Armin Hahne won the series. Why were there only three races in the series, and why wasn't there a series held in 1992?

Expense I suspect. I recall looking forward to this series with much anticipation, but somehow it failed to inspire.

High point was Derek Warwick taking out his pit board at Spa. I think he was bored.

Pit bored.

I'm so sorry. :stoned:

I'm surprised that this got only one reply so far.

Not too much I can contribute, as my Autosport magazines from the time are stashed away, sadly.

I do remember the series, and if I'm not mistaken it was intended to be a one-off (or rather a three-off) from the outset, and a huge cash-prize was on offer. Also, I think that all the cars were race-prepared by Jaguar, rather than by individual teams.

As with a lot of these one-make series, it seems to have turned into a rather expensive banger race. Only three out of the 14 cars ended up without panel damage somewhere!

Was pleasantly surprised to see this XJR15, s/n 011 according to racingsportscars.com, at Castle Combe for a demonstration run with an unhelmeted David Bradbury at the wheel.

I wonder where all the other challenge cars are ?

Earning money in collections all over the world I imagine.

Fairly brutish cars to drive from what I remember people saying at the time!!
