I can see that happening, but he has got to beat Sainz first, who so far is giving as good as he gets.

When looking at the races, both here and in Melbourne, Max has been nothing short of impressive and faster. Also do not forget that the kid is only 17, and has far fewer experience in lower formulas. The manner in which he passed Ricciardo and gave Bottas a hard time are clear indicators of his skills as well. Yes, Sainz is a good driver, however IMO anything short of beating Max would not be good. It also looks like Sainz is more or the qualifier, and Max is more the racer, however that is still rather soon to tell after just two races.

I would like to see Hamilton in Ferrari as soon as possible. I would be fascinating to see a 1 on 1 fight with Vettel but I don't think any manager would take the risk because its a high chance of alienating one of the two rosters in the pen :p and we all know how that went in 2007 at McLaren.

This was the shot in the arm that F1 needed.

Vettel has got his MOJO back. Great moment for him and for Ferrari.

Mercedes have slipped into the trap of ARROGANCE that had been the downfall of every dominant team at some point. The radio messages suggesting they were still going to pass Vettel on track were ridiculous - the decision to go for a three stop strategy and the lack of fresh options cost far more than the appearance of the safety car.

Red Bull also slipping into ARROGANCE. Horner and co. should save their energy for the factory - they were soundly beaten by the junior team and the drivers they chose over Vettel don't look so special all of a sudden.

Raikkonen short on luck again but I am sure he will be it up with Vettel and the Mercedes soon enough.

And the usual selection of untidy but entertaining battles from the usual midfield suspects.

More of this please!

If there was no safety car and to be honest it could have been recovered without one then seb would not have been able to stretch the tires to make it a two stop for him thus would be a different result. Bu hats of was a good drive and win

A better race - but thoughts that this signals a competitive closely fought season are premature.

It was hanging on for so long and thinking they could do a two stopper by effectively running the whole race on the slower hard tyre that cost Merc. Arrogance or not they failed to take into account that the softer tyre had much better pace and longevity than expected, and that the harder tyre had no real benefit whatsoever. They only really twigged around mid distance that they were on the wrong strategy. But they did waste a set of the options in Q1, so it seems they had already decided back then that they were junk tyres. Ferrari would still have run them close regardless, but not their finest hour.

It was a race to forget really for Mercedes...however they still finished second and third, with no mechanical failures, so I suppose we Merc fans can take positives from that. I'm sure it will be a different story in the races where the temperatures are cooler, such as China. I do however think that Ferrari are going to be a threat all season. Let's wait and see. Onwards and upwards! :)

I'm late to the party as I watched a replay of the race. It was great with lots of emotional moments. It was difficult not to think of Schumacher when Vettel was up there.

I didn't believe someone could beat Merc on merit this season - certainly not early in the season - but I was wrong. Those surprises make F1 interesting.

You need to pay attention more during the race.

Ric was holding onto rosberg with a damaged front wing until first safety car.

Without their brake issues they would have comfortably beaten williams, nothing wrong with that chassis, especially when you look at how they did in the wet on Saturday.

Many things can be claimed, but I recommend to leave drivers out of it. The impression you leave is just so dependent on the car, which you have. Ricciardo is a high quality driver, there is no doubt about that. And Kvyat is pretty decent as well.

Wasn't there any press conference after the race? I watched post race program from BBC and later Sky F1, but neither of them showed anything from the press conference. What was the reason?

Races like this one remind me why I keep watching F1 despite stuff like Melbourne and all the political **** out there.

For some reason, neither the BBC or Sky broadcast the post-race press conference any more and haven't for a while.

I have to say I haven't enjoyed an F1 race that much in years.. I guess next race will probably be business as usual but it is so good to have a contest on our hands, and for it to be Seb in a Ferrari really ups the game. Great stuff.

Great race, but I think its a false dawn in terms of Ferraris challenge for the rest of the season - the heat of Malaysia can make it a weird race; remember 2002? Williams won there and people thought they could challenge, but then we know what happened after that.

Still, its the first time of the v6 era that Mercedes has been beaten on pace alone rather than problems,so definitely there are positives to be taken from that.
