Undoubtedly there will be some increase in rear downforce over last year but I believe Sebs issue with the Red Bull was the unstable rear end. He never felt on top of the car which then increases tyre wear. This isn't necessarily due to more downforce being available but will be down to the overall car balance.

There could well have been a bit of 'unlearning' a few years of his blown floor technique but I personally don't think it's that simple.

Webber had, in the past, mentioned Vettel not being that happy with a car with a loose rear end.

In reference to the early braking and early throttle I would need to know context. For example, on a tyre limited circuit/strategy like Malaysia you would look to be as gentle on the tyres as possible but try and maintain good pace. A gentle approach through the braking zone, getting the car settled and then getting on the power in a controlled fashion would be a smart approach any day of the week but would be crucial in extending tyre life.

It sounds obvious but something that is always worth noting with regards to braking distances is that if two cars have different top speeds and the same braking performance, the faster car will have to brake earlier to slow down. A common cause of the lockup or overshooting a corner is actually a driver getting a better run out of the previous corner and not adapting to the now required earlier braking point.

James Allison via AMuS:
"Neither I designed anything for the 2014 car, nor for the 2015 car. My job is to decide which component is worth to be further developed."

Quotation marks?

Looks like it's been through an English German translator and back again!

"I haven't designed a single piece on this car, there's a lot of very talented people who do that," Allison said.

as usual James Allison down to inner core of earth. What a great personality he has. Mr James Allison we know you have designed every single part of that Ferrari SF15-T. Please don't lie

By the way who said Ferrari SF15-T project is late? It isn't. The aero project has started early January 2014 (15 months ago)

Question to any more experienced observers,I have seen Helmut Marko make some comments on how Vettel has now the confidence to drive the F15T the same way he drove the Redbulls.
Is the diffuser technology really back to the same level as it was 2010-2013?
I have been watching Vettel's onboards in Malasyia and he is extremely early on brake application and this enables him to be on the power early. Is this not the same style he had at RB?

No.

According to Red Bull, it wasn't the loose rear-end  SV had problems with last season, but the brake by wire system, and he had no feel for the throttle. Latter I can only imagine has been worsened by the style he had adopted to accomodate the Newey-drones he drove for four years.

Damage limitation for this weekend's Chinese GP.

Huh? Why would they have a damage limitation weekend when they have the 2nd fastest car?

I do expect Raikkonen to beat Vettel around China though. Doesn't seem to be his best track.

yes, I also expect Kimi to be front here, he is overdue a clean weekend, and with Vettel it was always the same story here, trying to two stop, and fail. worst was the 2011 one - they switched to two stop to get back ahead of the mclarens after the bad start, then radio goes kaboom, then Hamilton done on track, Button at the first stops (that was when he pitted at red bull right?) so after first stop Vettel is in front, only thing they need to do is mirror mclaren and it's a win, but they sticked to the 2 stops because they couldn't communicate, lost the lead to Hamilton with ~5 laps to go.

It worked out pretty well for Vettel in 2012 though. Very well actually.

Vettel's best tracks might change now that he's driving a Ferrari and not a Red Bull. Monza is probably the only safe bet, since he won there for two different teams.

This weekend should give us a clearer idea where the engine comparison stands in more normal circumstances - Ferrari's cooling solution probably won't have as much impact as in Malaysia, and China requires a bit of grunt to be quick. If Ferrari can come out of the weekend clearly second best, that will be a solid result. If they're mixing it with the Mercs, we could be in for an interesting season.

Allison says Ferrari will not be conservative, there are several updates going on, the aerodynamics workare going solid and we should expect big developments in that area since the rules are green. The emphasis is in projects/ideas that takes months(he even talk about year) than those minor that are developed for each week. He says is difficult to have results in 2-3 months and longer development periods will make it possible to be more creative and free with development.

I am sure we will be second best the only question is if they can stay with Mercedes during the race, I don't think we're gonna bother them too much in quali

Let's see if we have anything new on the car for Shanghai becoz I didn't see a lot of changes during winter testing and the first two races but I might be mistaken

Despite me thinking that the golden rule for Ferrari is that the car should be named "F2xxx", i'm almost a beliver in this years car even though it's lacking in the name department. Godspeed little Sf15-T!

Regarding the engine upgrade that Sauber ran in pre-season testing. Did anyone work out what day that was and what the top speeds/performance was? I remember Sauber being really quick on one day but everyone put it down to fumes. I wonder if it might offer a glimpse of what's to come.

I think there's a fair bit to come on the engine.
