Hello everyone,

I was digging through the web trying to find information on this race. The majority of the results led to this site so I signed up. I enjoy and collect old racing items and found a credential for this race. There is a car number written on the back. In the pages I found, no one listed the car numbers, Does anyone have a program or know the line up? Any help would be appreciated.

Jeff

What car number is it you are looking for?
I have a copy of the programme.

Hello Tom,

Thank you for the response. It is car #12. Would you post a photo or scan of the line up, please? I would love to know who else was in the race along with their car numbers. I could use that to try and find photos of the cars and drivers. Or is there a photo of the driver in the program?

Thank you,

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

No. 12 was Jean Viale's Delahaye, entered by Count Doric Heyden.

I have no idea how to post scans on this forum.

However if you send me a private message with your email address I will email you some scans of the programme.

Full information including starting numbers, many chassis numbers and full results,( in most cases ),  of this and all the other major British long-distance pre-war handicap races can be found in this book

Some of the race numbers for that race can be found at http://www.dlg.speed...beyond_1918.pdf - the race in question is on page 481.

Thank you Tom for the answer to my question and the scans. I'll post them later.

Thank you to Darren & RAP for all for the information.

I'll add the links to my bookmarks to help look up info on other races too.

The new quest is to find a photo of Jean Viale in the #12 Delahaye.

The new quest is to find a photo of Jean Viale in the #12 Delahaye.

The only archive I can think of which might have one of him in that particular race is LAT. He drove what was probably the same car at Cork on April 23rd and at Antwerp on May 22nd. Only a tiny fraction of their holdings is shown on the website, but there's no harm in asking!

I may be over-simplifying, but the 135 Competition Delahaye registration DUV 870, was bought by Rob Walker from Count Heyden. That was the car Arthur Dobson drove in the "Fastest Road Car Race" in 1939 (it won) and was at Gransden and Goodwood post-war. I'm not sure if it was the car Walker and Ian Connell drove to 8th place at Le Mans in 1939 as the car in the Le Mans photo I have has no front numberplate.

Heyden was importing Delahayes of course, so could have had several 135 Competitions and the above may be irrelevant.
