This Sunday, in association with Stewie's Sexy Party, INDYCARS GO NOW!!!

Now click this Youtube link!

The Event

Welcome to New Orleans, the home of Jazz, the Mardi Gras festival, amazing food and now INDYCARS! Yes, who thought in the south of the USA where people like to watch some sort of bizzare taxi cars run around bumper-to-bumper with green and white checkers, there would be a new Indycar race!

Below is the Indycar preview of the race...

The Track

motor_nola.vadapt.620.high.0.jpg

NOLA_Motorsports_Park_IndyCar_Series.png

Length: 2.75 mile permanent road course.

Turns: 13 turns now that Indycar have ploughed straight through the esses between 9 and 10.

Lap Record: Who knows? Unofficial testing only here, I believe.

In Car Footage: Could only find this Pro Mazda lap, shown below

What Happened at Round 1, St Pete??

Pow-300x221.jpg

Haha. Tell us what really happened?

destruction-derby-2-usa.jpg

What Really Happened at Round 1, St Pete??

indycar-st-pete-2015-cfh-racing-nose-sec

We had the debut of the much anticipated Aero Kits!!!!!!

Yes, we learnt that when cars crash into each other, bits of their car will fall off. Whether it was a Honda aero kit, a Chevy aero kit or the old Dallara aero kit (not appearing in this race, or Round 1), large clumps of carbon fibre will fall off and land on the track, thus bringing a full course yellow out. This should not be a surprise to anyone, so we can all stop moaning about how the new aero kits are useless. If you want to bash into each other when you drive, drive a Nascar.

But once the first half of the race was out of the way, we settled down to a serious showing of hand by Penske with Will Power & Juan Pablo Montoya out front commanding the field. A late slow pit stop for Will Power handed the race lead to Juan Pablo Montoya, who survived a late dive bombing by Power to take the win.

Have you got proof of what happened Stewie??

Drivers Championship after Round 1

1. 51pts Juan Pablo Montoya

2. 44pts Will Power

3. 35pts Tony Kanaan

Where Can I Watch Said Amazing Indycars?

In New Orleans.

What About On TV, Smart Arse?

USA

Well, praise the lord (other religions are available), this weeks race is on NBC Sports Network!

So we don't have to listen to these two chumps:

dm_080525_indy_wrap.jpg

(Scott Goodyear does indeed call the race with his eyes shut)

But we get these two:

0827TracyMask2.jpg

townsend-bell-royal-purple-275x275-14120

Yes kids, these are both racing drivers. Apparently.

United Kingdom

Anyway, in the UK you'll have to watch the race on BT Sport Extra. You'll need too

This week you'll be thankful we don't get racing bumped for college basketball....

Also, don't forget streaming for practice and qualifying, supplied to us by our media partners in Nigeria via YouTube.

What is the schedule for the weekend?

Friday

Indycar Practice 1 - 12.15pm US / 6.15pm UK

Indycar Practice 2 - 4.15pm US / 10.15pm UK

Saturday

Indycar Practice 3 - 12.30pm / 6.30pm UK

Indycar Qualifying - 4.15pm / 10.15pm UK

Sunday

Indycar Warmup - 11am US / 5pm UK
Indycar RACE! - 2.37pm US (why?!) / 8.37pm UK

What can we expect?!

This is Indycar. We can expect everything.

This should be an interesting race, as it's the first Indycar race here despite of alot of testing really. It'll be interesting to see how the aero kits work here as it'll be a balance between downforce for the corners or low drag for the straights.

Teams which can get their setup spot on early will do well all weekend, so I would expect to see Penske and Ganassi do well. Honda have alot to do after a indifferent start to the season in St Pete but in theory if a heavy downforce setup works at NOLA, then we could see Honda teams racing well.

And if you are tuning in to see the randomness that is Indycar, well you are very welcome. Enjoy the ride!!

As usual, there'll be a lot of support races: USF2000, Pro Mazda, Prototype Lights, Porsche GT3 and Mazda MX-5 Cup will have 2 each.

I do wonder how many times that image of Juan the shark bait is going to be used this IndyCar season.

Fantastic.

What do we think about the track? It, er, doesn't look like a real racing circuit. On the other hand, if there was a long, slowly curving straight connecting turns 7 and 10 the track map would look a bit like Portland.

Hasn't been a problem at Barber Motorsports Park (and there are warning lights at the end of pitlane).

I think you guys can calm down on the carbon fibre shares stuff :p both manufacturers have adjusted their aero since the season opener. Also, this track type tends to result in a more strung out race.

i could grow to like this "forum stuff", brilliant OP as the saying goes. By far the most enticing  since the G van d G/silly-Sauber Austrailia thread, which prompted me to sign up after 40 years of following F1,, I said at the time it was edge of the seat stuff. So Stevie, If more people put the effort in to thread creation the way you have done I would never be able to leave my computer.

You have convinced me to drag out the old Sat Dish ( no cable or fibre up here , just dsl ) from under the deck and start searching for a means to watch this race. With such an attractive ensemble of drivers, inc JPM and interesting support races, just add  a 24 of beer and some of Smokies local wings, and spray some Castrol R on the charcoal every now and then for ambiance and I am in heaven.

This weekend I will give Indy a  try, may the tires ( tyre) squeal and the Carbon fly, but overall let us be entertained by good racing.

Why don't they use those esses on the track layout, instead of turning them into the back-straight?

Needs more Girls Aloud  :p

I suspect that they're using the straight to help develop another overtaking spot into 10.

What's wrong with straights? Lots of straights? Why would you want more curves? Straights = the American way. Curves = commies. Do you want to be a commie?
