A small update this time; some new German national races 1975-1976; pictures from Salzburg 1974 (from a goldmine, see for yourself), Zolder 1979 and 1980 and Macau 1991; and updates from my archive & mailbox - check Site History for details.
More important: I'm forced to move the site to a new server before july; www.touringcarracing.net will remain in service, but if you have links deeper than that (like wikipedia) you're in for a surprise from July 1. I haven't decided where the site will go but I'll keep you informed.
Now I'd better start working on 1989, I guess.

Another update, and it is a big one indeed. All relevant 1989 series have been covered, I finally found time to add another piece on "classic cars", some 1972 updates, pictures of the 1970 Nürburgring, 1971 Salzburg, Rhydter Rundstreckenrennen, Trophy of the Dunes, 1976 Bergischer Löwe and Brno 1977, 1981 and 1982, and 1989 BTCC and Spa pictures. Sadly missing so far are pictures of the Dutch, Belgian and DTM championships but who knows what will come up in future!

There's another update available of the site. It contains many, many pictures, either new or from the pile "to be identified". Added are the 1973 Belgian championship, not too much details yet, Danish group 1 1973-1974 and a handful of German national races 1976-1977. Check for details http://www.touringca...es/history.html

Another update of www.touringcarracing.net. 1990 has been finished now, with all the regular championships and some pictures of Belgian Procar, BTCC and DTM action; a few old 1973 DRM pictures as well as a few extra races, like the 1960 Riverside GP support race, 1989 Bologna DTM, a 1970 24-hour race at Mantorp Park and I found a national Spanish 1970 race too, enabling me to add "Spain" to the page of european races.

Great site !

Anyone here know who Team Tourist Trophy was ? They raced a Jaguar 3.8 in the 1963 BTCC with at first Bill Aston , then John Adams driving . Could it have been Bill Astons car ?

Hi there,

the next update of my site has just gone live. It mainly concerns 1991 with all the familiar series from Dutch to Japanese, and pictures from some of those series (see the 1991 pictures index) with Brno 1977 and some Dutch snaps from 1988 and 1990 thrown in for good measure. I stumbled over some Macau info which has been used as well, like more info from the 1976 ETCC from Autosprint.
Now it's only 1992 and 1993 and I have reached my original goal (with this tempo it should be about four months), but don't panic; there's a backlog on Japan, Australia, Germany early 60's, Eastern Europe and I seem to have found a lot of information on the Spanish championship. And I'm sure in the mean time, something else will turn up!

Dear friends,

on the last day of 2012 I have a new update of the site for you; it concerns all of the major championships of 1992, as well as some more info on earlier New Zealand races. Furthermore, a few pictures of Chimay and Koksijde 1969-1971 as well as 1992 DTM, Belgian Procar and French TC pictures. Sadly missed are 1992 BTCC pictures, but you never know what will turn up in future.

A sort of milestone has been reached: with the addition of 1993 to my site my original goal is achieved. Besides 1993, there are some more updates and a lot of pictures, thanks to all those awesome people out there. Details are here.
This is not the end of my work however, since there's still some backlog for Australia, Japan eand I have something on Italy and Spain too. And you never know what's in the mailbox tomorrow.
It's been a pleasant journey so far. Thanks for all your support.

it's been quite a while but the site has been expanded once again. Was March 31 the moment I reached 1993 and so was the last of the regular updates, this and future updates will be more of a mixed bag.
The Italian championship 1970-1972 and the Spanish championship 1969-1972 are added, and that was a lot of work since most tracks and hillclimbs were completely new to me. I found two online Spanish newspapers and a lot of information from Italian Autosprint, and there's more where that came from so there will be more years in future. Roy Pagliacci allowed me to use his 8mm footage, so you will see the little Fiats racing, rolling and make lots of sound.
Yvette Fontaine herself allowed me to use pictures and information from here site as well, further completing my view of the Belgian scene - which still has wide gaps (like 1973 and 1988). 1987 Australia is added as well as numerous updates and pictures - see for yourself here.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did compiling them.

Again quite a while, but touring car research is becoming more difficult when you dive deep into championships in countries where my language barrier plays up a little, like Spain, Italy and Sweden. Still I managed to add a few things to the site:

  • Pictures of Spa 1960 (the earliest I have so far!), and some other years (for details see http://www.touringca...s/history.html)
  • updated are Sweden 1963/1970, the Italian points table for 1972, some races of the 1973 Belgian championship, the 1974 Spa 24h and a few other things.
  • New are the 1959-1962 Swedish championships; one of the eldest I have so far, and it surprised me that so many different makes of cars were raced there - I think the Swedish touring car history is underestimated by the rest of Europe.
  • Italy 1973 was added too, like the 1973-74 Spanish championship, the 1981 Rundstreckenpokal, The All-Japan 1985-1986 seasons and the 1987 Australian championships.
Enjoy!

Second update of 2014:

Updates for 1963-1965 Zolder ETCC races, 64-65 Swedish races and championships, 65 Monza ETCC, 74 300 km Nürburgring, 1979 Belgian championship standings, 1983 Rundstrecken Trophäe and 1987 AMSCAR; added are 1964-65 Belgian champions, 1964-1969 Zolder races, 1974 Nivelles Summer Meeting, 1982 & 1983 Rundstreckenpokal.

Enjoy.

Frank, just a small correction: I've discovered today that in the page

http://www.touringca... Car Races.html

the link Nürburgring 12h, year 1964, gives you the 1962 race.

:)

For the last time in 2014 I can present an update of the site. It doesn’t seem very big (most obvious is the 1974 Italian championship) but there have been many updated results and a few more new races and thanks to Autosprint I found out more on Belgium 1974 including its champion Alain Peltier. For details, check http://www.touringca...es/history.html

But there’s more, like a lot of new pictures - and I proudly present my sponsor, Automobilsport Magazine of which I’m sure many of you have heard - if not, check their website.
Best wishes for 2015 and be sure I’ll keep up the good work.

A real quick one this time; I discovered some broken links and found a few races which couldn’t be navigated to easily (1963 Coupes Benelux, 1966/67 Aspern Donau, 1971 Sembach, Mainz-Finthen DMV, 1973 Nordsee Trophä, 1976 Zandvoort Junioren trophy). Since I was already started with the next update, I’ll throw in Spain 1977 and Sweden 1970 (with one race in Norway) as well; last but not least I had to remove the pictures tagged as ”1981 Zolder Düren” since they must have been taken at another venue - but I’m still unclear when - it was Zolder, and somewhere between 1981 and possibly 1983.

Dear friends, about time for another update. Many, many pictures, especially from Austria 1957-1968 (watch out for a very young Niki Lauda and Jochen Rindt), Zandvoort 1972/75/79/83 (courtesy Hans Fohr), Zolder 1980 DRM, 1981 Eifelrennen DRM and EG Trophy, Zolder New Race Festival 1986/87/90/92 and Dutch championship 1990, courtesy of Bob Vandenholt. Many updates (see site history, but it includes some full Spanish and BSCC/BTCCn results) and new are the Austrian races 1957-1968 with some championship results, German races 1967-1970. Afgain, for details see the history section.

The idea is to get some new years for the Australian and Spanish championships, but you never know what else turns up.

Time for another update of my site. It is a big one really, if you want to know all details take a look at the site history; in short, pictures from Austria 1960 and 1970-1975; some pictures from Zandvoort 1972, and Zolder 1977 Westfalen and 1990 NAV races. A lot of very detailed updates on BSCC races 1963-1983; additions to Spain 197-1972; 1975 Trophée de l’Avenir; and new are two early American ”sedan” races (spot Mark Donohue in a Dauphine and Pedro Rodriguez in a Volvo…), a few 1964 French races, a lot on Austria 1970-1975, the 1975 Italian and French Championship, the 1978 Spanish championship and finally 1984/1985 Australia and New Zealand.

It’s been four months after the last one, so it was about time to get another update on the net. Some very old races (small car races in Lime Rock, USA and old Hockenheim, 1957-1962), Grand Prix de Spa 1955 and 1957, some Swiss races 1960-1969, a few from France 1961-1965, 1968 Coupes Benelux and some usual suspects: 1983 Australia, 1976 Austria and 1979 Spain. A lot of pictures from Zandvoort 1972, Zolder DRM 1977-1981, EG Trophy 1979-1981 and a little more - details can be found under the ”Site History” section.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did while compiling them - with a lot of outside help, as usual.

After over half a year, it’s about time for another update. Details can be found here: http://www.touringca...es/history.html but I’d like to give you a few high points.

  • Quite a lot of pictures from the UK, but Nicolas Papeleux managed to get allowance to use some pictures from Japan
  • Speaking of Japan: Nicolas too put me in the right direction to dive into that scene too. As a start, I took all the 1966 races I could find. No trace of a touring car championship here, but the races itself are interesting enough. There’s more to come, and with the Super Silhouette series there will be a genuine championship as well.
  • Nicolas has been busy; he found a lot of information on the Australian 1972 season which you’ll find on the site too.
  • All on my own I investigated the 1976 Italian Group 2 and 5 season which is up too.
  • As you may notice, Japan and Australia have big gaps now; Spain is far from ready so I have my work cut out for the next few years.
Enjoy and thanks for all your help!

After 8 months time for another update of the site. I sure hope it was worth waiting for.

Pictures: 1968 Welschap, 1969 Fassberg, 1973 Thruxton & Silverstone TT; 1976 Trophy of the Dunes; 1976 Zandvoort Paasraces; 1981 Fuji Masters 250; 1988 Thruxton 2

Updates: 1957-1961 Little Le Mans, 1960 Riverside; 1963 Snetterton BSCC; a lot of Begian races from 1961 to 1973 from Zolder, Spa, Nivelles and Koksijde; 1973-1977 Bathurst; 1970-74 STCC and other Swedish races 70-74; 1988/1990 Bathurst; 1991 DTC/DTT; 1992 DTC/DTT
New: 1960/62/64 Coupes Benelux; 1960 Silverstone Int Trophy; 1963 Little Le Mans; 1970 Belgian championship; 1970 Kanonloppet; 1971 Mantorp Park (2x), Knutstorp, Kinnekulle, Falkenberg and Mantorp nc; 1972 Knutstorp, Falkenberg, Kinnekulle nc; 1973 Coupes de Spa; 1973-1977 Australia; 1971-75 Swiss championship; 1974 Monza, Kinnekulle Cup; 1980 TTE Anderstorp; 1981 Japan Super Silhouette Series; 1991 DTC Hockenheim and points; 1991 DTT Brno

I’m especially happy with the Belgian results and the Japanese Super Silhouettes; the latter was completely new to me.

Unfortunately we have to report that Frank de Jong has passed away, last Saturday. He will be sorely missed by all who have met him, or have been in contact with him on the subject of Touring Car Races. On the Dutch Facebook page where I heard the news it was already stated that the work he has done will be continued and the website will stay in place, and keep being updated.
