This is why F1 hasn't got bigger audiences.

F1 coverage hasn't changed in more than a decade. All these modern go-pro and similar cameras and we still only get distant trackside shots 90% of the time. And people are cheering on the possible departure of RBR despite that company being 1,000 times more innovative in terms of coverage than F1 has ever been.

2. They only race in the USA.

Did we get the Province of Ontario Canada or the city of Toronto in trade I didn't hear about?  I'd gladly trade Buffalo for Toronto.  We should throw in the Niagra Falls as well.

To be fair though, Indycar does race in some developing nations like Alabama and Texas...

Oh for crying out loud would you give it a rest? Here's an idea, why don't you go away and post on a message board relating to a something that you actually like rather than polluting this website with your obsession with engine sounds.  Are you this tedious in real life or is it just a thing you do online?

You might not know it but there's an option in the settings you should use:

Add a new user to my list

Just put me on your list like I do it with you now.

Btw. I already did it with a lot of people (they just don't get that I'm ignoring them) because I have no time to argue with stupid people - in real life as well as online, you know...

after my first season of working for FOM in 1997 (when it was the F1 Digital service) we pleaded with the powers that be that we needed a steadicam in the pits for the pitstops.....they refused every time ...................it turned out later on, we found out that..............the guy in charge didn't know what a steadicam was! And yes, you're right, the Indycar on-boards are way more interesting than the F1's. I still don't understand why F1 doesn't use 'pan-able' on-board cameras like Indy Car's they reallyhelp to give a drivers' perspective.  At Monaco, in practice only, mind, we always used to use an on-board down low on the front of the car, looking back through the suspension and front wheel, looked bluddy great. To my knowledge, it was NEVER used during the race.  Again, a wasted opportunity to give the fans something extra.

I don't think F1 bringing better cameras on the cars like that would make a lot of difference, after all Indycar's audience is a pale shadow of what it was in the USA alone, let alone the rest of the world. That said, the prices F1 is demanding from fans at the gate and on TV demands the best, and those cameras are some of the best.

I'm not an IndyCar fan by any stretch, but their onboard camera work often leaves me asking why F1 isn't doing the same or better.

TV is just a fad

Both the BBC and SKY have had feeds where you could watch a whole race from on board, and nobody watched them.

yeah because you couldnt choose which onboard, they chose instead.

I did still use them tho.

The other day I watched Indy and thought again how important the look of the cars is. F1 cars look beautiful compared to Indys.

The level of hate for Indycar here is high - If you walked away in the mid 2000's, it is a good time to come back.

Good racing for the most part.

I know it is the poor cousin to F1, but they are slowly working their way back to relevance.

Based on the first 2 races this year, I am not so sure. The new aero package has made the cars monumentally ugly, and (for me anyway) the calbre of the racing seems to be going downhill. Today's race was a travesty, despite the fact that my fav driver won.

Yep. Not sure what aspect you're referring to as I only saw about an hour of it, but that hour was just as I described earlier in the thread.

Maybe more fun if you like watching "Crash, yellow for several laps, crash on restart, yellow for  several laps, crash on restart...wash, rinse, repeat". That's what it's been like for the last several races I've tried to watch.

It's unreal. Every road course or street race has become the same thing....

Here in Germany we have to believe F1 has a problem, especially with Red Bull always threading to quit.

Just found this very interesting interview with Bernie, Toto, Christian. What do you believe? Who is right. I can understand Toto, but I am more on Christian's and Bernie's side...

I respect their abilities, but the typical IndyCar street circuit is pure ****. Usually incredibly bumpy & not particularly entertaining to watch.

But still 10X more interesting to watch than an F1 car in a sea of 10 mile wide tarmac.

And that is the relevant part, that Indycar knows it is rebuilding from a shattered past. First and foremost they are trying to build a solid fan base by hosting races close to fans and making everything as accessible as possible. Compared to the cost of a Formula One race, the Indycar event was run on a much smaller budget. A realistic budget.

Say what you will about spec cars, level of technology, and tight tracks, the field is competitive and this generates close racing. IMO I would rather have cars fighting wheel to wheel versus fancy and high tech cruising seconds apart from each other.

Yup, stay east of the Mississippi, nothing to see here, move along. Nothing for you here, stay away.

Miller: IndyCar Fans Deserve Better...

http://www.racer.com...-deserve-better

It's definately a club track though pretty racey from listening to those that have run there.  This part of Miller's commentary is hollow..

But, no offense to the hosts or the plucky fans who showed up, this is a destination more suited for an SCCA regional or national than hosting the premier open-wheel series in North America. And while IndyCar continues to throw darts at places with no racing history or limited interest, great, traditional layouts like Road America, Watkins Glen, Road Atlanta, Mosport and CoTA in Austin are ignored.

Pretty much like IndyCar itself.

Those tracks aren't ignored by Indycar, they simply don't find it a sustainable business proposition to pay to host a race.  CotA interferes with TMS, according to Gossage anyway. They make money at TMS.  Atlanta is a poor Indycar market, no modern history.  The Glen and Elkhart Lake are great tracks but well off the beaten path and the Glen owned by ISC doesn't help matters.  Indycar is what it is. It's not going to grow appreciably and will be lucky to sustain what interest there is now over the long run.  As much as I like Miller he's one of the old school types that think there is going to be some miraculous recover and the sport will be at or near where it was.  Those days are long gone.  Races like NOLA last weekend don't help but the reality is the sport isn't going to grow to any great extent.

No you didn't, but I hear Iowa is on the verge of defecting to Canada. There may be others to follow, the "Beiber Plan" seems to be working! Btw ... we already have Niagara Falls ... the best part anyway.
