I couldn't find a thread, so I made one...and thanks to Newbrray for some content :)

Qualifying

Last year Nico out-qualified Lewis, but was beaten away at the start, and after a fairly thrilling race, Lewis won.

Ferrari are looking better and better, so maybe we'll get a four-way scrum at the front - and if Williams can join the fray, so much the better.

Honda have said that they won't show a big improvement this race, so Jenson and Fernando will be scrapping around the back, but I have high hopes that they'll get a point at this race (although I maybe seeing this through McLaren Papaya tinted goggles)

Let's hope for a repeat of the quality of last year.  I'll be off to the live forum, but will be popping back and forth.

The main question how close will be Ferrari to Mercedes this weekend. First assumptions may be done very soon.

FP1 starts at 12.00 right?

I got momentarily confused by Autosport still using GMT :(

Edit - 12.00 UK (14.00 in Bahrain)

FP2 is 16.00 UK (18.00 in Bahrain)

FP3 is 13.00 UK (15.00 in Bahrain)

Quali is 16.00 UK (18.00 in Bahrain)

Dang - I was popping back and forth between forums as I made the posts, and got into a bizarre loop - I was worried that this might happen.  Maybe the mods could be kind and hide my embarrasment and remove this superfluous thread?

Is there anywhere that gives the timings of the sessions in your local time zone? The F1 official website used to allow yout o convert to your time zone, so I don't knwo if the time they are quoting is local or my time.

I don't know why but its seems incredebly difficult to find start times, and I don't know why it should be this way. Maybe I'm doing something wrong.

It is on the main page on the Formula 1 site. Navigate further down the page  where it says all the races, then click Bahrain and the local times will appear, then just below is a button which says convert to my timezone.

A fair few people not expecting much running in FP1 due to it having very little relevance to quali and the race in terms of the times they'll be on track and the obvious big temperature differences. In a way, FP2 is the only really relevant session for the teams before quali.

There will be probably be running for the first 30 mins as they have the set of tyres they then get rid of but I dont expect much running for the 30 mins after that

Thank you, that makes a lot of sense ... why not just have it also in the see all races section as well?

They get rid of 2 sets of tyres after FP1 - the set from the 1st 30 mins and another set of primes. I can't imagine they will run much - they won't learn much about the tyres or set-up as the conditions will be wrong so lots of engine saving!!!

Forgot they get rid of two sets and yes good point about the engines. Especially the Renault and Honda engines I think

Yeah, they gave them a set of extra tyres in the first 30 mins to get more running but then decreased the amount of engines! Nice one FIA. Lets hope this 5th engine does get introduced (even if it is just for practices it will hopefully ensure more running)

I imagine there'll be a shortage of on track action this session considering the conditions are very different to qualifying/race

Just because they can....
(They have the performance and they also have so much better reliability they can run as much as they want and still have life in their power units :p )

Any comments on how Palmer did?

The time is not special, but I don't know against what kind of performances I should compare.

ERS battery problem on Jenson`s car.,. it seems the PU is alive. McLaren will change the battery pack and will try to send Jenson on track at the end of the session.
