I have seen some marvellous sights and sounds on track since the 1950s. But there is something I have always wondered about...How would a big Merc go in Bob Jane's hands at Bathurst? To me, at the time, it was a smile-on-your-face exciting prospect...
So, M-100 engine and 300SEL 6.3, creating the world's fastest four-door sedan and/or the introduction of the "W116" chassis, a larger 6.9 liter version of M-100 was installed in the Mercedes-Benz 450SEL 6.9.
I always thought their mountain climbing ability, good top speed and reliability might have produced a surprising result. Brakes might have been another matter though.
[PS Not looking for an eligibility lecture...this is just about "scenes we'd like to see", with apologies to Mad Magazine]
