I am hoping this would be the last year we will have to suffer these kind of threads. I see no reason why this can't be piled up together with other Engine related threads. In fact, most topic this days are too closely related you get confuse where to post.

Mods please do something.

Edit: Rasputin, this rant wasn't aimed at you, more at the situation that has forced people to creates specific oriented threads.

That's cool, this thread is something of a prank over what you just wrote anyways.

Great another 'which engine is best, place bets NOW' thread.

Forum user A: Yes, I want the V10's back!

Forum user B: Like, get with the times, it's the 21st century, haven't you heard hybrids are cool.

Forum user A: No, I like hybrid technology.

Forum user B: WTF? You aren't a real racing fan, GTFO you hippie n00b.

Forum user A: I don't really know/care.

Forum user B: Grow a set dude, Bernie/CVC/capitalist pigs love people like you, you're killing F1!

Opinions are like assh*les, everyone has one and you can never win an argument on an internet forum.

In short, if you missed the V10/12's the first time round ... well, you missed them. It was a one shot deal.

It was only a few months ago, I rewatched a lot of 2003-2005 races.  Was a thrill, despite the lack of gimmicks like DRS, or KERS, or ERS, ICE or whatever other abbreviations there are.

The qualifying laps especially were awesome despite the poor sound and video quality relative to now.  There was something about them, very similar to when a jet fighter or WW2 fighter does a "fly by".  Awesome stuff.

I honestly don't care about what configuration they use or what they sound like. Just allow turbos, mandate that ERS has to be a certain percentage of peak bhp (say 15% or so) and limit the fuel tank size. State that they have to sell the engines to at least one non-works team for £10mil a year. It'll still produce the same green tech push but make things more exciting.

Just for reference, this lap is 0.8 seconds slower than Hamilton's pole position time this year.

The thing I really love about this forum is that it's a good place to discuss various topics relating to motorsport; as long as those topics are 'whining about engines' and Pastor Maldonado' obviously.... :well:

Mods should close every thread not relating to these two subjects and be done with it.

No, the '86 cars were beasts. If anything, a car for 'men with balls' would be something like a 250F.

I love current fantastic power units and I really see no reason, naturally aspirated engines to come back.

Formula1 is always Comparative. Every time a new rule comes on board, people compare it with previous one and judge.

I think there will be a period in Formula1 that people will say those V6 Hybrid Turbo power units were noisy and fantastic because of this one:  :)

But it was with RACE FUEL ONBOARD.

While Hamilton was on fumes.

Why not allow more engine freedom? Most of these topics arise because there are too many control freaks out there. I mean normal cars have different engine configurations as well. At least instead of talking about likes or dislikes, it could add a new dimension of talking about the benefits of different engine configurations.

I really don't care how an engine produces 1000 hp.   1 cylinder (that would be an engineering marvel), 20 cylinder (an engineering marvel of another kind too).

Different minimum weights for the cars though?

2004 minimum weight was 600kg which included the driver and fuel.

2015 minimum weight is 700kg which includes the driver but not fuel.

It's not really a good reason to start a thread is it? There's already a thread about going back to old engines. Closed.
