I took quite a few pics on Sat afternoon but my 'good' happy snap camera has gone out of focus, it must have a hangover!
These are the only three I have taken with my phone.
1 John Bowe in the March
2 Mark Goldsmith in the very pretty 622 Elfin
3 Richard Warland with Lynton Hemers. That big camera is Lyntons! And that jump battery got heavy after a while!
As Lynton said the weather on Sunday was generally ok, some light drizzle a coupe of times. A seemingly reasonable crowd for a suspect day.
I saw a lot of familiar faces from the past of Sports Sedan competitors, quite a few were competing/ Super Sprinting.
As for cars there was THREE Barry Bray cars, his A30, The Stanza and the Gazelle. Dick Ward in Mighty Mouse, Larry Kavanaugh in Saggy Sarah, The ex Mick Monterosso Escort [and Mick was a spectator too] The Mark Trenoweth Pussy cat, Serge Deluca in Louies Anglia as well as a few other long term Sports Sedan competitors in a variety of cars. Ian Statham and Bruce Combe among others.
There was four Deluca's competing,, Serge in the Anglia, Louie in Serges Falcon Sprint that had him a bit baffled on Saturday as it was so different to anything he had ever raced.Though Sunday afternoon had him enjoying it! Serges son Bradley in the ex Serge Mk1 Cortina and Louies son Michael in a quite quick RX7.
Ian Brock at 91 was in his other car, the Nadger Clubman and son Garry was again in his Centura.
A decent field of Formula Fords generally going quick,,, and unlike the past behaving themselves!
A decent field of not so historic though defenitly old enough HQs. Boring,,as usual Bruce Heinrich won every race though his son outqualified him,, then ran second every start.
Q&R had a decent field headed by John Bowe in the March. That car looks better in real life than pics, the color is stunning but it does not transpose in photos. Whoever takes the pics!! I met Richard Warland Sat arvo and ended up working on the Mallock the rest of the weekend, As did Lynton Hemers. Richard had a very average meeting,, two fuel pumps and then a major oil leak in the last start. Once sorted a very swift little beast. 2 Bob [Collinson] had an engine issue Sun arvo and Doig did not crash or break the engine or axles so continued on in about forth place as usual beating far more fancied cars every start.
J K&L had a decent dice between Bob Shapel in the s/c MG Special and Samantha Diamond in the Lola Mk1
GpS had a small field where there seemed to be a battle for the front with a Lotus & [in Gp S?] and a TVR Tuscan. And further back between Joe Caleja in a booming 63 Vette and an MGB. Joe owns the March that Bowe was driving,, I think he should give some lessons!! Though the battle was interesting,, whammo down the straights from the Vette and the MG was all over him under brakes and corners.
GpN saw Andy Williams win every start in the XU1. And some spirited starts from Graham Jarret [who spent most of qualifying looking at the oncoming cars on the edge of the track near the start line!!] Polesitter Kevan Stoopman, Daryl Hansen, Roger Oliver and Denis Obrien in the Hansen 69 Mustang. Of that group only Andy and Roger avoided panel damage!!
To my knowledge no real crashes apart from Jeff Barnes Fri crash in the Pontiac SS and John Virgos sat afternoon crash.
EDIT, we also had a Boomerang WW2 plane do a flyover at lunch time Sunday. In fact it did many loops and wheelies over the place as too make me nearly dizzy! At one stage I though it was going to land,,, Mallala as many will know was a WW2 Airforce base. The boomerang [no pun intended] straight was a main runway for the base, out into the now surrounding paddocks.
