Sometimes, when you do an advanced search on User Name and Content the search engine throws up a string of same-thread posts, similar recent to the most recent post, that are far from new or the latest.

At other times, the search function is fine and throws up (mostly) what you requested.

It's been like that ever since the introduction of the current software in 2013 - the search engine just doesn't display results in chronological order. As you say, when searching on user name and content it appears to pick a thread and display all the posts the user has made in that thread, then move to another, and so on, but it's not consistent in this, and it varies from page to page. Some of us have been pointing this out ad nauseam since the introduction of the software, but have never had any feedback from Mr Grayson and his team, let alone a solution to the problem.

To be fair, the search engine does work a lot better now than it did when first introduced, so credit where credit is due, but there are still some other very frustrating features (eg having to re-enter all the relevant fields every time when making a series of searches) which I feel sure could be easily sorted, but it seems that no-one cares.

You may get better results by using Google site search - just add site:forums.autosport.com/forum/10-the-nostalgia-forum/ to your search term(s) in a normal Google search box. That will search TNF and all sub-forums.

I wish it could be easily sorted! If it could be, we definitely would have done this by now.

Our developers put quite a lot of time and effort into trying to improve the search and fix the glitches, but there's something more deeply wrong with the search than we were able to fix. I had hoped that we would have the development manpower to look at the search glitches again, but there have always been bigger fires to put out...

Many thanks Mr Grayson. It's nice to have some feedback on this at last, and good to know that you haven't completely given up on possibly fixing the problems in the fullness of time. :)
