Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, children of all ages, D-Generation X proudly brings to you the 6-time tag team champions of the world...........

WAIT.....WRONG PROMO....sorry, let me do that again.

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, children of all ages.....for the next two weeks, everything going on somewhere west of Indianapolis, 6 time zones away from Greenwich, it's the greatest spectacle in all of sports entertainment,

WRESTLEMANIA....I mean.....

INDIANAPOLIS 500 XCIX

So, what the heck is the Indianapolis 500?

It's a 500 mile Indycar race

Okay.....so what's the big deal then?

It's the only Indycar race everyone outside of the racing community give a damn about.

So why do they give a crap about it?

It's been going on for a long time.

This is the 99th/ XCIX running of the race.

It's been a stable in the motorsport world.

It use to be the largest spectator event in the world

It was the ultimate test of speed, and it might be again this year come pole day.

And many more.

Where is it?

I was really looking forward to the Indy road race today. I set the program for 3p, as listed. Crap - they are on lap 50! I got to see the final 27 laps. And every race is re-run - but not this one! There are 8 channels that might show races, and I checked them all. If the NFL or Nascar were treated this way, people would lose their jobs. But, it's just Indycar...

The biggest problem? It's ABC/ESPN. Espn has absolutely no idea of how to do a car race. ABC isn't  much better. Idiots!

Bring. It. On.

And the picture in picture of driver's wives/other half's in the last few laps, everyone just loves that bit.

If you can find a Nigerian streaming service which offers ESPN UK, you'll get complete re-runs at (these are British Summer Time schedules - you'll have to work local out for yourself, but it's five hours behind Eastern!) 0830 Tuesday and 0600 Wednesday. Highlights at 1815 Wednesday, 0415, 0800 and 2200 Thursday and 0330 Saturday.

You'll have a great time, enjoy it. I've pretty much convinced myself that i need to make a return visit for the 100th next year.

I've started stockpiling supplies of awful American 'beer', obesity inducing snacks and am in the painstaking selection stage of choosing the winners milk for my sweepstake.

OOOooooh it's May! My favourite time of year.

I'll be going against the grain and looking for some French wine for race day to support the French connection (Seabass and Pags) during the race.  :p

EDIT: Windows clock says that 12:15 pm in Indiana is 7:15 pm... in Eastern Europe, so 5:15 pm GMT.

I'm heading down Wednesday with my Dad and brother with hot pit and garage passes. We'll then be at the race; collectively we'll have 146 Indy 500s between the three of us. Excited for our annual return, I'll post some photos upon return.

And unfortunately ABC/ESPN doing the coverage here...  they are pathetic... almost missed the start of the race on Saturday.   What is their excuse??  Hell, they've been doing it for YEARS! I remember Sir Jackie doing commentarty WAY back when.   If anything, they could bring back Paul Page for Gods sake!!!

What on earth is the point of streaming practice if they don't have FX mikes around the track? Formula E is louder than this.

A technical issue, or maybe it has something to do with the muting the copyrighted music earlier.

Edit: works after I hit refresh.

Cheever is condescending and now Goodyear is trying to keep up with him. It could be a very long race with their commentary.

Is Muppet going to have an audio feed?

EDIT: Windows clock says that 12:15 pm in Indiana is 7:15 pm... in Eastern Europe, so 5:15 pm GMT.

Keep in mind though that the time in England is not always GMT. The current time in England is BST, an hour ahead of GMT.

The current time in Indianapolis seems to be six hours behind the one in Amsterdam (CEST), which would make it a five hour difference to England (BST).

Have they started showing the WAGs yet?

Or are they saving that for when things on track actually get exciting?

Lap 197 when Power, Dixon and Kimball are going three-wide into Turn 1 after a 10-lap full course yellow ...

Speaking of WAGs, during a rain break they had a clip of the closing stages of the 1992 race, complete with the not-very-convincing disappointment of Sandy Andretti. But her outfit! Have you ever seen the like?

I don't think Coyne is running the third car today. We'll probably just see Huertas (he was out there before the rain) and Mann turn laps.

No idea, but he was at IMS over the weekend, gave a talk to the junior series drivers before their races. Max Chilton apparently found his advice on ovals very helpful. Speaking of Chilton:

Marshall Pruett has a short take on the superspeedway aero kits that's worth your eyeball time. Racer dot com, stat.

The drivers are talking about the cars being much more slippery through the air and creating much less drag this year. There's been much too much sitting in a long single-file line for 180 laps in the last couple of races, so I'm feeling optimistic.

A lot of rain in Indiana today, looks like they may not get any more running in before 7pm.

Why is Saavedra there??

He's in an AFS Racing car, they are his personal sponsor in fact. Why they don't want to sponsor someone better, I don't know (they used to back Andretti's Indy Lights program when the likes of Hildebrand went through it).

225.184mph by Marco Andretti, looks like it was set without drafting help too.
