Here's an oddity. I have just been looking at several images of Sir John Whitmore racing Fords in the 1960s. Sometimes he wore a blue helmet with a conventional 'Ford' logo on it, but sometimes he raced in a white helmet where the 'Ford' logo was a reversed (mirror) image.

Apart from the fact that he could look in the rear view mirror to re-assure himself that he was .... himself .... what was the reason for this ?

As it is usual for Ambulances to have ECNALUBMA on the bonnet perhaps it is something to do with "SIR JOHN'S...."

I'll let myself out......

Well, if it is a warning to a car ahead of him, at least it was more civilised than the Senna method of just barging someone out of the way ....

I'll let myself out too ....

:) :)

It was probably a way of annoying photographers when they were developing photos.

Peter Windsor's interview "Lunch with Sir John Whitmore" explains it.

I'd cut & paste but since the forum was revised, I'm completely baffled (not) using the functions
