I was just thinking about the Williams team and its history. Since they entered F1, they've run Cosworth engines during 3 separate stints (badged as Ford in the 70s/early 80s), Honda engines, Judd engines, Renault during 2 stints (including a couple of years with re-badged Renaults, which I wouldn't consider a "different" engine maker necessarily), BMW engines, Toyota engines, and now Mercedes engines.

That's 7 engine manufacturers, 10 if you consider Ford separate from Cosworth and Mechachrome/Supertec distinct from Renault.

Has any single team or even chassis manufacturer run with more engine suppliers during its F1 existence? I'd guess Lotus would be close, especially if you consider the current team a continuation of the original (a stretch, to be sure), and maybe Cooper in its various guises?

McLaren would probably be up there. They even went to the trouble of testing a Chrysler/Lamborghini.

Starting in 1966...

  2. Serenissima
  3. BRM
  4. Cosworth
  5. Alfa Romeo
  6. TAG-Porsche
  7. Honda (x2)
  8. Peugeot
  9. Mercedes-Benz

Lotus had...

  1. Climax
  2. BRM
  3. Cosworth (and Ford-Cosworth if there's a distinction)
  4. Pratt & Whitney
  5. Renault
  6. Honda
  7. Judd
  8. Lamborghini
  9. Ford
  10. Mugen-Honda

Depends if you separate out Honda & Mugen and Ford & Cosworth.

Also, bonus Brabham...

  1. Climax
  2. Repco
  3. Cosworth (x2)
  4. Alfa Romeo
  5. BMW
  6. Judd (x2)
  7. Yamaha

And Cooper, but only as a constructor...

  1. JAP
  2. Bristol
  3. Alta
  4. Climax
  5. Maserati
  6. Borgward
  7. OSCA
  8. Castellotti
  9. Ferrari
  10. Alfa Romeo
  11. Ford
  12. ATS
  13. BRM

I didn't even think about them, but you're surely right. They may even be ahead of Williams on that front. I'll do a little research.

Edit: Jimisgod already did! Looks like the most obvious contender was right under my nose and I didn't even think of it. Thanks!

The Ford-Cosworth thing gets tricky. a Cosworth V8 and a Ford V10 would be different, if the team had changed engine suppliers in between.

But in Minardi's case isn't an 05 Cosworth V10 a 98/99 Ford V10 with updates? In the sense that the 2005 Red Bull Cosworth and the 1997 Stewart-Ford are linked(in engine terms, ignore the chassis/team continuation)

Didn't Scuderia Castellotti actually ran with Ferrari engines?

They did but I think it was badge-job, like the Sauber-Petronas and Prost-Acer of modern times. So probably falls into the same grey area as Renault/Supertec/Mecachrome and Ford/Cosworth etc.

Speaking of Prost, taking them and Ligier as one continuation, they racked up nine suppliers:

Matra

Ford/Cosworth

Renault

Megatron/BMW

Judd

Lamborghini

Mugen

Peugeot

Ferrari/Acer

Plus the ill-fated Alfa that never ran
