The best motor race of the year on the best track! Well, in my opinion...it still has that 'old skool' feel to it. Yes, I prefer it to Le Mans.....

Mega race to watch, totally surreal as day turns to night and the forest becomes alive with party's, bbq's, drinking and more etc, then back to dawn. Amazing party atmosphere.

Never forget finding myself stood at the very bottom of the Foxholes right up against the barrier (bit pissed), at dusk, and watching two SLS's and a Z3GT come thundering down the hill nose to tail, totally flat out. Breathtaking amount of energy, noise and speed right within touching distance..

Highly recommended!

Thanks for the OP, Rich.

This is my first Nurburgring 24 hours, so I can safely say that I am at least hyped.

Have any changes been made as a result of Mardenborough's accident earlier in the year?

I'd normally be excited for this race, but the speed limits thing flat out sucks.

What's the point of even racing, if there's a speed limit at various sections of track? Might as well get a group of the drivers to have an online race on Project CARS.

Here's an onboard lap from the latest VLN race with speed limits in place. Doesn't make a huge difference at a glance, it doesn't seems the drivers really races into the limited zone and have to brake at least.

Gone as long as GT3 is there, too much pace difference to have the smallest-engined VLN classes in the 24h.

Without speed limits every class from GT4 up would've been banned from the race, which is something a number of people don't seem to understand. In addition to Flugplatz, there really are other places on the track where an accident similar to what happened to Mardenborough is quite possible.

For example Schwedenkreutz: https://www.youtube....h?v=b5ZT2KFYY2U

Because of the limits in place, we do get an actual motor race this weekend, so I don't see a whole lot of reason to complain. And hey - at least there is no Super-Mario flap.

Then I wouldn't mind seeing the GT3 gone tbf.

The race with the classic cars was amusing to see.

I understand that it's a very long track, and getting good coverage all around the circuit is a hassle, but hopefully the director will spend less time during the big race showing cars with flat tyres limping along, random guys walking up and down the pitlane, or cars circling the Grand Prix track only to cut away when they enter the Nordschleife.

Did the speed limits really kill the times THAT much? or was it just wet?

I recall a certain Kevin Estre hitting an 8:02 last time out

EDIT: 8:10, my bad, but still, that a ridiculous time

Estre's pole last year was an 8:10. Lap times around the 8-minute mark are for the VLN configuration, which has the Mercedes Arena but cuts out the bottom section of the GP track, so lap times are a few seconds faster on the VLN config. So, in the end, the speed limits slowed the cars down by about 8-10 seconds overall.

Yeah an 8:10, my bad. Thanks for the info

Just took a closer look at the entry list, and it shows Stanaway & Mücke on double duty for the 006 & 007 Astons?! Same thing with Vanthoor for the 28 & 29 Audis.

I guess you can't get enough of the Nordschleife with just one team..

Is there any streaming of this?

I found this http://www.wired.com...gring-coverage/ but only the Nissan stream works for me.

Will it be aired in the States - I cannot find anything on this!

That notification was shown during the Qualifying. As Richard T states in the OP, "Race will not be geoblocked".

I don't know why this was different during the Quali, but the race broadcast will be international.

There is a Firefox app called Hola, I installed it and watched some of quali. It is supported Firefox app so nothing dodgy or Nigerian required.

I'll miss the start at work, but should be back to watch most of the race into Sunday. Last watched in 2013 and woke up to see the restarts, very convenient.

Interesting to see that Rob Huff will be running the WTCC then the 24hours, any other drivers doing both?

I always forget how narrow it is!

How are they doing the speed limit?  Is it automatically triggered or a push button in the cockpit?

Most sources just say that it's 'controlled by GPS', which would indicate that it's some kind of software trick. However, I believe there's a 60 km/h limit for any double yellow zones, and I'm pretty sure that has to be driver operated. So in short, no idea.

What's the story with that Opel Manta? Is it an original spec or was it modified to modern standards?
