I never saw a picture of it but I once read that Alfa Romeo had built a 3 liter V12 for the 3.0 supercharged/4.5 atmo formula.

Each bank of 6 cylinders had an triple RootsBlower arrangement (thus 3 Roots in series) and both these arrangements were fed by a single centrifugal supercharger, so a grand total of 7(!) blowers!

I never saw a picture of but how thus had to be built into a chassis, whow!!!

I've seen far more spectacular racing engine installation threads than this one.

Didn't Honda once have a V6 bike?

I wonder what it's engine was like.

And who has a good pic of the RC211Vs engine?

Honda's most impressive bike engine.

How about this:

Quad_Al_Allison_Dragster.png

Jim Lytle's "Quad Al" - a four wheel drive dragster (very) loosely based on a Fiat Topolino - with four V12 Allison aero engines churning out a meagre 12,000 BHP

Honda did quite a few impressive bike engines.

250cc six.

125cc Five cylinder

50cc twin

500cc 4 stroke oval piston like the NR750 above.

But the best was of course the Moto Guzzi 500cc V8

Car wise, some of the mome brewed stuff I ahve seen in autograss takes some beating, supercharged Rover V8 in the back of a Mini pickup, or a 205. Twin bike engines in just about anything.

The 250cc 2 stroke turbo sidecar Swissauto developed in the 80's.

And don't even start about tractor pulling

4 Russian helicopter engines in a 4.5 tonne tractor. 6 Keith Black nitro burning engines in a tractor. 3 Packard Mustang engines in one machine.

It's a straight-6. Not that impressive. Only it's just 250cc in capacity and was mated to a Honda RC166 in the 1960s.

How about the 4 rotor Wankel from the Le Mans winning Mazda 787B? At least you can't say it doesn't sound spectacular.      ;)

The Fiat S76, built to break land-speed records in 1911, featured an engine with a displacement of over 28 litres, and was known as "The Beast of Turin":

Sadly that is no longer true, due to several technical issues they have gone from the CA2010 to a supercharged and modified 5-liter Jaguar V8.

Many engines may have been spectacular for their time. Unfortunately we had our most spectacular engine (irrespective of time) almost ten years ago...
