Official Event Guidehttp://viewer.zmags....0a9#/5706c0a9/1

-------------

After 7 races made super tight street-circuits. Hideous chicanes and a lot of drama, Formula E reaches Berlin for its 8th round.

Apart from beers, wurstels and blonde goodesses, Saturday 23th of May will be also remembered in Berlin as the first ever Formula E Race. A round that is going to be unique: very wide track, different surfaces, permanent track-looking turns and a final, twisty part under the Tempelhof Airport's structure.

-------------

We arrive from an interesting, yet not as spectacular as the past races, Monaco e-Prix. Remember the race start?

Than the race evolved in a nice three-way fight between Sebastien Buemi, Lucas Di Grassi & Nelson Piquet Jr. Buemi came out of the pits wheel to wheel with Di Grassi, with Piquet closing in. Than the swissman created a gap from the leader of the championship, leaving him in trouble with a very aggressive Piquet behind, yet unable to pass

Now the title's battle is closer than ever, with 3 drivers in 10 points, while the Constructors Trophy is to loose for Dams.

Very well done!  Really looking forward to this one... yet again!  Actually moreso than the Monaco GP (and I mean the F1 one). ;)

I can't wait till saturday. This is the first ropen wheel race I'm attending in person.

According to Yr.no the weather should be sunny and around 19°C for the race and dry all day.

I'm glad people agree with me that the biggest obstacle facing Nick Heidfeld from winning is the fact that he is Nick Heidfeld.

He's a great driver no question, but he is still Nick Heidfeld. He and his silly beard can't get away from that I'm afraid.

No surprise though to see ZEE GERMANS leading ZEE FANBOOST. I'll still be cheering for SCOTT-a-bit-more-SPEED-than-expected.

I am missing the mighty Ho-Pin Tung in Team China though, sorry but it seems wrong seeing Charles Pic in the car.

biggest question of the weekend though: Will we even notice Vitantonio Liuzzi? I'm yet to remember that he's even part of Formula E

Can't wait for the race I also can't pretend to be looking forward to it on the same level as the big three races this weekend but nevertheless any time you're routinely convincing someone like me, who gets off work at midnight, to set his alarm at an ungodly hour of the beautiful weekend to watch your race, you're doing something right.

May Formula E never be unplugged.

Too bad none of those pesky communists that float around single-seater racing are in this race like Vitaly Petrov or Sweet Aleshin. That's where my money would be: the Russian flag has historically flown very high in Berlin...

Also in the news from Berlin:

http://www.racer.com...e-battery-plans

Agag has shared the idea to not open up battery competition until season 5, instead of the current season 3 plan. Instead he proposes a new battery, effectively a joint effort between all teams, in the aim of reducing costs and putting some good thinkers together.

I like the idea as a concept but I do worry that BMW, Audi, Toyota, Honda etc would be put off this idea when they might be interested in competing.

FP2 now LIVE!

Common word in paddock is that Tyre Degradation will play a big factor in race.
A lot of marbles of the line, this airport's surface is destroying the tyres!

From the paddock shots of the e.DAMS cars the tyres look dreadful frankly, hopefully it could spice things up without causing safety issues.

5 front and 5 rear tyres are all each car gets per weekend. It looks likely that teams will be changing before qualifying if the degradation continues. So far this season no one has had tyre issues due to the hard compound, 'road relevant' tyres from Michelin. Have teams even changed tyres between sessions during the season yet? Can't say I've noticed and have assumed they've just run the same tyres all day

Man, Piquet's rear is all over the place.

And no, i don't think any team changed tyres between sessions yet. This is the first "traditional circuit", with long corners, combined with an aggressive surface, and the tyre deg is massive!

This track is looking pretty nice! Loving the curb design which means the walls have to come right to the apex, gives it a nice close feel. Whole event seems pretty well laid out (how is it looking for people actually there?) Anyone else reminded of IndyCar venues?

It's nice to see the cars running around such different environment. Very nice to see them sliding and pushing. Will be very interesting to see how it plays out in the racing..

A DTM/Formula E double header would be nice. I think DTM considered going to Tempelhof after the airport closed, but there was a problem with noise regulations or something.

Tis the beauty of Formula E!

Yeah, I guess a double header like that would be nice. I remember talk of a DTM Tempelhof and it sounded quite good, I'm glad Formula E has been able to make it happen and I hope it stays part of the calendar.

Are those little bollards that just collapse and return? Easy way to police track limits?

Sliding through turns 14/15 is pretty cool!

He got into racing very late, at 22. Basically when he started, Fernando Alonso (who is three weeks older than him) was already GP winner.

I like your enthusiasm, but actually, Berlin is by far the slowest circuit yet. Looking at the pole position times, the ranking is as follows:

Long Beach: 0.56,937 = 134.738 km/h
Punta del Este: 1.15,408 = 134.055 km/h
Buenois Aires: 1.09,134 = 125.339 km/h
Beijing: 1.42,200 = 121.632 km/h
Monaco: 0.53,478 = 118.815 km/h
Miami: 1.05,953 = 118.393 km/h
Putrajaya: 1.21,779 = 112.694 km/h
Berlin: 1.21,547 = 109.041 km/h

Given that Berlin is the only non-street circuit on the calender, I feel like they could have done a lot more with that layout.

That surprises me a lot, I guess its because the layout looks more like a traditional circuit than a street circuit.

Last 3 turns slows the circuit's average speed a lot.

I quite like it

It seems like a nice circuit, but it still looks too much like a street circuit. I'm sure they could have done more with the vast airfield apron.

Though I don't think Battersea Park would count as a street circuit.

Battersea will be more of a probably ridiculous park circuit, I suppose.
