Incredible!
But that immense race pace advantage smelled fishy to me tbh.

That's a huge impact on the championship!
That means Piquet Jr. 1st and Sebastien Buemi close second!

And D'Ambrosio reaches Prost in the standings.

How incredibly odd! And indeed, the championship implications are huge. I hope we get some more concrete details about this soon!

Could "modified front wing fairings" have produced the advantage? I wondered at the time if there was a power discrepancy after the convenient failure so if there was a disqualification I would have thought it would be that.

Very strange.

Aaand the title battle just gets more and more dramatic!

And indeed, the championship implications are huge.

Would put it to:

Piquet       103
Buemi       102
Di Grassi   93

No?

Doesn't seem like the modification gave him any pace advantage, but rules are rules... The team should have known better than this..

Well this makes Piquet's recovery drive all the more important. I'll be honest I am hoping for a Piquet vs Di Grassi title showdown in London so I hope Di Grassi will be as good in Moscow as he was in Berlin, illegal car or not. Everyone hates coming away from a race to later find the chap who you thought had won, didn't actually win. But rules are rules and this a huge gaff frankly from a very well established team.

So, now that's 7 winners in 8 races. 6 different teams winning as well. D'Ambrosio with an outside shot of the championship now perhaps.

Dragon Racing now sit 2nd in the teams standings too. Considering they missed 2(?) of the donnington tests and looked woefully underprepared before the season started, credit to them, the surprise package of the championship as a team. None of us gave them much of a hope right?

Continuing the surprises, I was wrong, I noticed Liuzzi in this race.

Once again, Mahindra disappointing. I thought they had some Carlin guys onboard? Will be interesting to see what their powertrain will be like in season 2. Emphasis on that behind the scenes maybe.

It's almost a shame that an error on that part ruined such a great drive form Di Grassi. But then rules are rules I guess.

Yes, Piquet has shown why you never give up. It's swung his way...for now.

As an aside, what sort of cretinous self-hating idiotic brain-dead attempt at a human being would vote for fanboost to go to the lying cheat that is Piquet?  Really, some people should not be allowed democracy.  It's like ISIS voting.

Because people forget. It was 2008 I mean come on move on! And I wouldn't go that far.
He's driving well in Formula E. He's very good with the battery and he's rewarded by leading the championship.

People make mistakes. It's 7 years ago. I'd suggest letting it go.

for the record I voted for Scott Speed. Again. Great help that turned out to be.

I'll go out on a whim and say Piquet has been the best driver SO FAR this season. It feels like Buemi and Di Grassi have had the backing of the really strong teams which has made Piquet's achievements more impressive. No disrespect to Buemi, Di Grassi or Team China though.

Instead of putting up with the ludicrous US TV coverage and/or wrestling with iffy live streams, I just decided to watch it delayed on YouTube, and it was a great decision.  Jolly good race again, loved the onboard footage, although the direction was a bit iffy, missing some key passes live.  Love the wide track which adds variety to the real street circuits.  Shame about di Grassi, but deep down I am glad this helps the championship battle... and I do hope Piquet wins it.  Really time to lay off him about the past.  He is a great fan favorite, very talented driver, and good ambassador for FE - and he would make a great first champion (would probably get more attention due to the famous name, too).

Sounds like it was more than just two metal rods to fix damage...

Gpupdate.net - "It was discovered that the front wing fairings had been modified to include internal metal reinforcing rods, while six of the eight holes in the front wing were sealed.

"The other two holes were found to have helicoil inserts and chamfers made, and the front wing flap and gurney LH 220 a filler layer added and chamfer made."

It was a great race from where I sat. Does anybody know why Lacas de Grassi couldn't drive back to the pit after winning the race?

I will upload a few pictures later today.

I heard him say something like 'PMS Error' on the radio? Power Management System maybe?

Please do! How much of the tack was visible?

That reminds me. One thing they really need to improve for next season is radio  :p

All those sudden "24.5", "48" and such always make me think that my TV accidentally interfered some police radio frecuency.

Shame, but the championship is way tighter.

I too changed my mind about Piquet Jr. this year. Life goes on.

Is this the same team that had the water-bottle incident at the Norisring in the DTM, which all started as an innocent and honest mistake and then some people thought that it actually might have been less innocent than that? Not that there's confirmation that the bottle incident was planned, but I wonder how often Abt can actually claim the "honest mistake" defence (even though it never worked) before people wonder if the team has a more liberal or creative relation to the rulebook....

Close! Pretty sure he said BMS, thats the batterie management system then. Probably just an electronic glitch.

I guess Nelsinho has the upper hand to be the title favourite... And would enhance him to formula racing back if he got this title...

I'm bummed I missed this one.

I am glad to see cheating and cheaters getting caught; that means this is a serious racing series.

Not the best FE race I have seen, I guess because it was on a relatively wide track with no safety car. Sounds like the front wing or whatever had some work done. Tut Tut

Here are some pictues as promised.

I was sitting in grandstand A2 and was able to see the track from the last corner to about corner 5. I walked up to the silver grand stands and you were able to see the track almost all the way.

Haha I was in Berlin all weekend and didn't even know this was on. Nothing advertising it whatsoever. And I couldn't exactly hear it...

Edit: Even weirder, I spent yesterday lunchtime walking round the Tempelhof park - I did see some grandstands up but thought it was for a concert. Absolutely no evidence of a motor race. Was it well attended??
