Hi. I was wondering when was the last time an F1 car was making competitve and fast laps on Nurburgring Nordschleife? Promotional laps by Heidfeld/Schumacher do not count. Of course, last time there was a grand prix held there was in 1976, but were there maybe some test held later? Or was a ban for F1 cars imposed, similar to one for GT3 cars after fatal flip this year?

I don't think there was a ban on F1 cars. It was simply the case that without a race at the 'Ring there was no point in testing a car there. If you are testing a car you need a short circuit - In the absence of any marshalls, if anything goes wrong it's up to the pit crew to deal with it. Witness how many testing accidents have been judged [after the event] as being 'avoidable' if the circuit had been fully manned.

Well presumably the 1986 ban on testing without full race safety conditions would essentially be a ban by the FIA on F1 cars testing at the 'ring, since it could never be manned sufficiently for F1 race safety conditions, without having all the marshals in Germany on posts.

Is that the time that DSJ fell asleep during the Hockenheim race and reported on what he had dreamt?

No it was the occasion of James Hunt setting the all-time F1 lap record at the Ring, Jochen Mass winning, and Stuck and the spectators at Pflanzgarten having the most miraculous of escapes.
Sadly, it is an extremely difficult task to obtain photographic evidence of said events, must have something to do with the mighty Mr E...
